About the Role:
Our systems engineering team works closely with our software engineering, security, and IT operations teams on infrastructure solution design and delivery. They are responsible for developing a direction for infrastructure services within the technology portfolio, building and maturing infrastructure engineering practices, and enabling future-state business capabilities. They focus on delivering solutions that achieve high standards in availability, resiliency, operational efficiency, and total cost of ownership. As a network engineer, you will play a key role in designing and maintaining the network infrastructure for Do it Best Corp.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assess, propose, and prioritize network infrastructure engineering efforts based on value and alignment with corporate objectives
- Execute on architecting, engineering, and deploying technology solutions, with a focus on resiliency, recoverability, security, performance, manageability, and total cost of ownership
- Partner with others on the architecture & engineering team for technology research, innovation, and experimentation efforts
- Install, configure, and maintain network equipment including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers
- Collect data and perform analysis to ensure optimal network performance
- Collaborate with team members from other subject domains to define and mature solution engineering practices, focusing on engineering principles
- Perform technology evaluations and make recommendations for hardware, software, and services
- Collaborate with IT operations teams on troubleshooting, isolating, and resolving issues
- Provide Tier 3 technical support, including participation in an on-call rotation
- Enable IT operations teams to manage technology assets by creating documentation and leading knowledge transfer sessions
- Occasional travel to distribution centers for technology projects
Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Four year technical degree (Computer Science / related discipline) or equivalent training and at least 4 years relevant professional experience
- Experience with solutions engineering and applying systems thinking principles
- Experience with core infrastructure technologies and services
- Experience with cloud technologies, including building and operating cloud applications
- Knowledge of OSI model and networking fundamentals
- Knowledge of IT security and operational best-practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Disciplined, focused, and self-motivated
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Attentive to detail and proven decision-making abilities
Additional considerations:
- Knowledge of retail and distribution business processes
- Experience with scripting and automation
- Knowledge of technology protocols and standards
- Knowledge of and experience with agile and/or lean frameworks
- Knowledge of application design principles and modern architectures
