Job Description

Job Description Summary:
Provide System Administration for complex enterprise systems comprising multiple servers/VMs and/or disparate software products. Work with other System Enterprise Application (SEA) groups to provision and integrate complex systems into SEA infrastructure and perform server administration functions in collaboration with other System Office IT groups. Perform database administration support of the Texas A&M University System's various applications that run on relational databases, including the enterprise data warehouse.
Responsibilities:
- Incident support of database management systems.
- Provide support to other technical/business process teams for enterprise systems.
- Assist and provide consultation to other System Office IT group development teams for database design, installation, and testing for enterprise-level DBMS systems
- Implement the standards and processes used to document database administration methods and security procedures.
- Implement standards for documenting database problems, recovery, and repairs.
- Implement standards for the development of plans for new databases or upgrades.
- Implement Vendor provided designs.
- Work with Leadership to establish enterprise level standards for the implementation of new technology deployments and system integration testing.
- Collaborate with other technical/business process teams.
- Act as liaison between SEA and ITS for implementing enterprise infrastructure needs: Requesting servers/VMs, Firewall port assignments, software level credentials (MSAs or other service accounts) from ITS; Install, configure, and harden system/infrastructure software following best practices.
- Database Administration, Operations, Support: Includes: Install, configure, and harden new servers; Upgrade and migrate database servers to new OS and software versions; Administer access and security and ensure compliance with all TAMUS policies and industry best practices; Conduct periodic assessments and ongoing monitoring to ensure compliance; Monitor and oversee performance. Determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware changes, server configuration changes, or index/query changes. Implement server diagnostic and security monitoring tools; Create and Implement maintenance plans for SQL databases; Implement and Manage server backup and recovery plans, business continuity and disaster recovery plan; Create period reports for management indicating compliance and operational integrity; Develop and implement standards for security and application access.
- Database Development: Create packages, jobs, and scripts to perform maintenance tasks and support the development teams; Support development efforts, while managing risks, by automating deployment projects using scripts, automating builds, and tests.
- Ensure compliance with TAMUS policies and organization security requirements.
- System/Infrastructure software patching (coordinating patching with vendors as needed).
- Proactive incident support of systems.
- Provide tier 2/3 support to other technical/business process teams for enterprise systems.
- Implement standards for documenting system problems, recovery, and repairs.
- Implement standards for the development of plans for new components or upgrades.
- Work with leadership to establish enterprise level standards for the implementation of new technology deployments and system integration testing.
- Conduct periodic assessments and ongoing monitoring to ensure compliance and performance needs; Monitor and oversee system performance; Implement system diagnostic and security monitoring tools; Create period reports for management indicating compliance and operational integrity.
- Participate in mentoring, training, and development of other employees; develop specifications based on input from the enterprise's stakeholders; consult with and assist computing personnel, vendors and/or manufacturers' representatives in resolving complex procedural, operational, and technical problems; serve as a senior member of a team responsible for setting the enterprise's technical standards and direction
- Professional development. Research changes in technology and attend seminars, educational courses, etc. to further develop technical and professional skills.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Six years of SQL database administration and/or systems administration experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of complex systems administration, systems design, database administration, database design, and SQL development.
- Working knowledge of underlying server and I/0 systems to support applications and SQL databases.
- Demonstrated knowledge of operational support of Windows Servers, Apache Tomcat, IIS.
- Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with others.
