The network architect’s main function is to plan, design and oversee the design, installation, and management of network and infrastructure. UC Health uses the Architect position as the top internal position for the network specialties that includes routing and switching, wireless, firewall and security. The architect position will document the environment and update the knowledge base with relevant information. The network architect mentors and provides instructions for network engineers, technicians and vendors to accomplish these tasks.

Candidates must be available for on-call rotation over a 7 day/week long duration, once every 5 weeks.
Responsibilities- Infrastructure Design and Implementation:
- Research new technology and approaches to improve UC Health network and telephony.
- Develops network and telephony systems to meet enterprise requirements.
- Responsible for design decisions and implementation.
- Regularly reviews network management logs and systems for performance and uptime.
- Reviews designs and equipment lists from engineers, vendors and analysts.
- Reviews design impact post-installation.
- Insures back up of all network and telephony software and configurations.
- Provides mentoring and leadership for Engineers, Technicians and IS&T employees.
- Highly specialized position working with all aspects of UC Health LAN, WAN & Telephony Enterprise.
- Attends and conduct training for new products and technologies.
- Review Network Services dashboard regularly and adds network and telephony elements that are not included or are new.
- Understands Cloud application architecture, configuration, and setup.
- Palo Alto and/or Proofpoint experience preferred.
Management and Maintenance:
- Coordinates the process to isolate any network or telephony problems.
- Evaluates impact of each step through problem management.
- Communicates regularly with management and Service Desk throughout an issue.
- Identifies network and telephony maintenance issues for resolution.
- Reviews and responds to logs and alerts from network management systems.
- Opens and works through calls in network & telephony vendor’s technical support.
- Completes problem management investigations.
- Works with IT management and departments providing Tier 2 support.
- Participates in on-call rotation.
- Works outside of prime-time hours to affect changes to the enterprise.
Administration:
- Prepares equipment lists for quotation.
- Attends staff, PMO and project meetings and completes time sheets.
- Leads projects as assigned by the Manager of Network Services.
- Works with other IS&T departments and vendors to develop designs.
- Works with facilities managers to coordinate network installation with their projects.
- Works with Network Services Manager to identify improvements, define best practices, and train others.
Documentation:
- Opens and closes service calls in a timely manner and documents tickets with status updates, findings and resolution.
- Responsible for changes to the IP scheme for the UC Health Enterprise
- Creates and maintains network drawings in approved graphics software.
- Provides research documentation in staff meetings for discussion.
- Participates in policy development.
- Participates in development of network maintenance project list.
- Provides reports to management on network health.
- Able to provide executive-level briefings.
- Required to use Network Services knowledge base to document information.
Other duties as assigned: Individual will work closely with InfoSec on cybersecurity initiatives including segmentation, automation, incident response, policies and NIST best practices.
Qualifications- Minimum Required: High School Diploma or GED.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences.
- Minimum Required: 6 years’ experience in networking technologies.
- Minimum Required without a Degree: 8 Years equivalent experience.
