Summary
The Network Administrator is responsible for maintaining and monitoring MCCA’s network infrastructure, ensuring reliable and secure connectivity for both staff and clients. This role involves troubleshooting network issues, configuring network services for events, and supporting the ongoing performance and security of wired and wireless networks. The position is critical to providing seamless network access during events and maintaining operational stability across the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Accountability Statements
- Network Infrastructure Management: Lead the configuration, maintenance, and management of Infoblox DNS and DHCP infrastructure to ensure seamless network operations for MCCA staff and clients, measured by minimal disruptions and optimized performance
- Network Troubleshooting and Diagnosis: Effectively monitor and diagnose issues in both wired and wireless networks, ensuring timely resolution of connectivity problems to minimize downtime, as evidenced by quick troubleshooting and resolution of network/telecommunication disruptions
- Exhibitor and Client Network Support: Accurately assess the network needs of exhibitors and clients, configure the required network services, and ensure successful delivery during events, measured by positive feedback from event clients and minimal network issues during shows
- System Maintenance and Security Monitoring: Assist in the ongoing maintenance of networking hardware and software, and actively monitor security logs and network performance, with a focus on identifying and addressing potential vulnerabilities, as indicated by the absence of major security incidents or network breaches
- Service and Support Management: Manage daily network services requests through the IT ticketing system, ensuring all issues are addressed in a timely manner and escalated when needed, with success measured by efficient ticket resolution and customer satisfaction
- Documentation and Network Recommendations: Support the Infrastructure Manager in creating and maintaining detailed departmental documentation, contributing to ongoing projects, and offering network improvement recommendations, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and aligned with network optimization goals

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Supervision is provided by the Deputy Director of Technical Services and includes assignment of duties, inspection of work, training, coaching, and performance evaluation.

Basic Qualifications
- Network Fundamentals: In-depth knowledge of the OSI model and familiarity with industry protocols, including IP addressing, subnetting, and network protocols like TCP/UDP, BGP, and OSPF
- Experience with Networking Hardware: Proven experience in troubleshooting routers, switches, fault-tolerant redundant environments, and hardware maintenance
- Wireless Network Support: A working knowledge of supporting wireless network environments.
- Customer Service and Communication Skills: Strong commitment to customer service, with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels within the organization and present technology recommendations from a business perspective
- A valid driver’s license is required, as travel to other MCCA facilities, including the MassMutual Center in Springfield, MA, may be necessary
- Availability to participate in a rotational on-call schedule to provide after-hours IT support as needed
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree required
- Minimum of three years of experience in roles such as Network Operations Analyst, Network Operations Field Engineer, Network Operations Center Technician/Engineer, or other related positions.
Skills & Competencies
- LAN and Network Protocols: Solid understanding of LAN protocols, including VRRP, Spanning Tree, Ethernet, and VLANs
- DNS and Server Technologies: Working knowledge of DNS, SMTP, and server technologies
- Network Security: Experience with network security log analysis and enterprise SIEM solutions (e.g., Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk)
- Cisco and Cisco Meraki: Experience with Cisco and Cisco Meraki network infrastructure is required, with a strong emphasis on transitioning from a Juniper-based network to a Cisco-based environment
- Juniper Equipment Knowledge: Experience with Juniper network equipment is a plus
- Software Licensing and Purchasing: Experience with software licensing, volume purchasing agreements, and enterprise system software suppliers (e.g., IBM, HP, Microsoft)
- Audit and Reconciliation: Experience in planning and carrying out software license audits and reconciliations
- Self-Motivation and Independence: Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision

WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule for this position typically fluctuates based upon the needs of a particular event or project, which would require the ability to work a flexible schedule including late nights, early mornings, long days, weekends, and holidays. Travel to other MCCA facilities and work locations may be required.
