Job Title: IT System Engineer

Job Summary
An IT Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing an organization’s IT infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, security, and efficiency. This role involves maintaining system integrity and stability, supporting business operations, troubleshooting technical issues, and collaborating with IT teams and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and implement secure and reliable IT systems, including servers, storage, network devices, and operating systems.
- Evaluate new technologies and recommend upgrades to meet the organization’s evolving needs.
- Conduct regular system audits, performance tuning, and preventive maintenance to ensure system health and efficiency.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues promptly to minimize downtime and support business continuity.
- Implement and monitor security measures to protect systems from cybersecurity threats, including configuring firewalls, antivirus software, and encryption protocols.
- Ensure all systems comply with industry regulations, organizational policies, and data privacy laws.
- Develop and implement scripts and tools to automate routine tasks, streamline workflows, and improve operational efficiency.
- Document processes and procedures for system management, monitoring, and incident response.
- Design and manage data backup strategies to protect critical data and ensure recoverability in case of system failures.
- Maintain and test disaster recovery procedures to safeguard against potential disruptions.
- Work closely with IT teams, including network, security, and application support teams, to coordinate and support system deployments and upgrades.
- Provide technical guidance and support to end-users and IT staff on system-related issues.
- Provide on-call support as scheduled or needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Information Technology.
- Implement monitoring tools to track system performance, detect potential issues, and generate reports for management.
- Create and maintain system documentation, diagrams, and knowledge base articles.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a System Engineer or in a similar role with expertise in systems design, administration, and support.
- Proficiency in Windows and Linux operating systems, virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), and cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Strong knowledge of network protocols, firewalls, security, and data protection.
- Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, PowerShell, or Python).
- Familiarity with backup solutions, disaster recovery planning, and monitoring tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Skills
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, CompTIA Network+, ,VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or VMware Certified Technical Associate (VCTA).
- Experience with DevOps methodologies and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) tools.
- Knowledge of ITIL practices and service management.
Work Environment
- Hours of work may vary depending on business needs; role requires flexibility.
- Ability and willingness to travel with no restrictions; must hold a valid passport; role oversees multiple locations.
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must be able to perform physical labor, including having sufficient strength to lift and carry tools and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- This position at times may require working in small, confined spaces or from an elevated area such as a ladder or bucket truck/lift. This position works primarily in an indoor or office environment. While performing essential duties of the job the employee will work in an environment under constant deadlines and may be exposed to dust, dirt, cleaning fumes, and other odors. The work environment may also contain uneven surfaces, confined space entry, or elevated heights. The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to loud.
- Occasional work in a refrigerated warehouse, where temperatures range from 45-55°F. The noise level in the work environment can be loud due to packaging machinery, and forklift truck operation.
- This job occasionally operates in a hot, high humidity environment where temperature average 90 degrees Fahrenheit, but may increase to approximately 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summertime.
- Role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Specific vision capabilities required; the employee is to work in front of a computer, sitting and/or standing for prolonged periods is required. The employee will need to listen and talk to other employees.
