Re-advertise Network Engineer (IT Technician III), Minimum Salary $54,165 per year, USC Aiken Technology Services Division
Under the supervision of the Director of Technology Operations and in coordination with other Technology Operations staff members, maintain the stable operation of the university’s data networks and telecommunications systems. This position is primarily responsible for the configuration, deployment, and maintenance of core network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls, and CPE), core network services (DHCP, DNS, 802.1X / RADIUS, BGP, OSPF, and NAT), and telecommunications systems. In collaboration with the director and other assigned staff members, this position will design, plan, and implement new segments and revise existing segments of the university’s data networks, some of which must meet regulatory standards. The scope of these designs and implementations will be end-to-end: from structured cabling, edge network equipment, and uplink connectivity, to coordinating work with contractors and colleagues. This position will mentor the junior staff members and supervise student administrators. This position will specifically provide guidance to the network administrator regarding edge network equipment, physical access control equipment, and telecommunications equipment and will provide backup to the network administrator in these areas. This position is a member of a team which provides mission-critical services to the university and is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience. Experience with configuring network equipment, including switches, routers, firewall, VPN, IDS/IPS, and network wiring also required. Must be able to drive and possess a valid driver’s license. Preferred Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Systems; Cisco CCNA, Microsoft MCSE, or similar certification; Experience with Cisco switches (Catalyst or Nexus), WiFi (Meraki), and firewalls (CheckPoint, Cisco ASA); Experience with VoIP telephony systems.

Configure, deploy, and maintain core network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls, etc.), core network services (DHCP, DNS, 802.1X / RADIUS, BGP, OSPF, NAT, etc.), and telecommunications systems. Ensure all required regulatory standards and security requirements are met. Maintain accurate documentation of all network topology, configuration, and changes. Store this documentation in a shared area specified by the director.

In collaboration with other Technology Operations staff, design, plan, and implement new segments and revise existing segments of the university’s data networks to meet the needs of the university. Integrate all required regulatory standards and security requirements into these designs. Execute the implementation of these plans through cooperation and collaboration with colleagues, communicating with and directing vendors and contractors, and manage the project when designated by the director.

Provide guidance and serve as a backup to the network administrator for the configuration and deployment of edge network equipment, telephone equipment, and physical access equipment. Mentor the network administrator and student administrators.
