BAE Systems is searching for an Engineer with strong communications skills who will be responsible for the computing infrastructure. This includes both hardware and software systems, as well as networks and servers. The organization’s mission centers around mobile devices (e.g., iPhone, Android) and will require interaction with such devices.
The duties and responsibilities of an Infrastructure Engineer may include:- Analyzing system requirements and ensuring that systems will be securely integrated with current applications.
- Installing, configuring, and testing IT systems including servers, hardware and software upgrades, and other devices.
- Managing mobile device inventory to include updates, and account management.
- Monitoring system performance to ensure everything runs smoothly and securely.
- Managing IT projects to improve infrastructure.
- Maintaining disaster recovery operations including backup and restore procedures.
- Documenting IT infrastructure layout and design for future reference and upgrades.
- Working with team developers and organizational IT staff to provide technical guidance.
- Implementing technology and industry best practices.
- Monitoring and managing data storage systems within the team.
- Resolve issues that developers have escalated by troubleshooting local infrastructure.
- Analyze system logs and identifying potential issues.
- Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness.
- Mentor team members on technical issues.
- Conduct regular system audits.
- Run and share regular operation system reports with senior staff.
- Collaborate with team members to maintain standards and functionality.
- Managing Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS) native and virtualized servers as well as MacOS servers.
- Managing Docker virtualization environments utilizing Docker Compose and Rancher Kubernetes.
- Managing the setup, configuration, and updating of the Atlassian suite of tools: Jira, Bitbucket, Bamboo.
- Deploying and managing Bamboo agents on various platforms.
- Managing Network Attached Storage solutions.
- Managing mobile device inventory.
- Establishing and maintaining monitoring of team systems and services.
- Installing, configuring, and managing server racks.
- Working with the larger organization’s operations and security teams to design, document, and maintain infrastructure for the team.
- Managing a Nexus artifact repository to be integrated into CI/CD pipelines.
- Managing SSL certificate renewals and deployment with the possibility of standing up a secrets management system such as HashiCorp’s Vault, BitWarden, Github Secrets, KubernetesSecrets, or AWS Secrets Manager.
- Manage and troubleshoot network connections over WAN and mobile cellular network.
- Work primarily supports advanced projects developer environment but may require integration with the Lab Management team to provide backup including assisting as needed with help desk tasks including: Answers end-user phone calls; Responds to and diagnoses and solves more complex end-user problems and issues through discussions with users; Assists in collecting help desk metrics and analyzing and identifying problem report trends; Maintains call logs, escalates problems to help desk analysts and may be responsible for reporting; Provides guidance to less experienced help desk personnel.
- Six years’ experience minimum. This role is more Systems Administration focused but some network engineer experience is needed.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience with databases and networks (LAN, WAN).
- Knowledge of data backup and recovery.
- Ability to create scripts in Python or other languages.
- Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms (MacOS, Ubuntu and CentOS Linux).
- Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude.

- A Bachelor’s Degree and 6 years work experience or equivalent experience
- Experience conducting infrastructure management using Ansible or other tools enabling Infrastructure As Code.
- Experience working with the Atlassian suite of development tools (Jira, Bitbucket, Bamboo). Experience working with Bamboo to set up and manage the performance of build agents.
- Experience managing Kubernetes clusters, preferably Rancher Kubernetes.
- Experience working with network load balancing as well as failover and monitoring daemons such as HAProxy and keepalived.
- Experience with network troubleshooting (firewalls, permissions, LAN, WAN).
- Experience with Sophos firewalls management and configuration
- Experience working with and troubleshooting LDAP and Active Directory services.
- Experience working with monitoring tools such as Splunk.
- Experience programming in or having worked in an environment that develops in Python.
- Experience with a secrets management system such as HashiCorp’s Vault, BitWarden, Github Secrets, KubernetesSecrets, or AWS Secrets Manager.
- Experience managing mobile devices as well as rooting and jailbreaking them.
- Experience working with mobile device automation and management infrastructure whether through virtualization or hardware automation. Examples include: Android Device Farmer; iOS Control Floor; Corellium; Appium; Experience setting up or working with Xcode to sign certs and deploy an iOS application.
