Job Summary
The Division of Epidemiology at the University of Utah seeks a highly-motivated and self-directed senior systems administrator with experience in systems administration of Linux-based operating system installation/configuration and networking configuration including switch management. In addition the system administrator will install, configure, and maintain system levels software and packages such as Apache Webserver, Tomcat, Relational Database Management Systems, and Data Science tools such as Python, Java, Maven, and others system level software packages. This position will collaborate with the Director of the Data Science Infrastructure and Software Engineering team in strategic decisions and operational decisions. Responsibilities
Install and manage Ubuntu Linux servers and network security including upgrades, patches, and intrusion detection systems. Install and manage system servers and NAS storage infrastructure. Designs, implements, maintains, and tests, relational database management systems, Apache, Tomcat, and Data Science platforms (Python, R). Designs, implements, and maintains container environments. Manages and maintains SSL certificates in various environment. Experience developing Infrastructure as Code ( IAC ) automation methods. Experience in operationalization of DevSecOps processes for cloud environments. Designs, installs, and maintains new hardware and systems to increase efficiency, and competitive advantage and promote and support company growth Has direct responsibility for disaster recovery solutions. Designs, implements, maintains and tests backup strategies for disaster recovery. Provides coverage and support on server systems for production operations. Performs complicated and difficult assignments under general direction requiring a high degree of technical competence reflecting knowledge of current state-of-the-art technologies. Conceives and plans projects involving the assessment of basic architecture, current hardware limitations, defines and selects new concepts and approaches. A wide degree of creativity is expected. May report directly to a project lead or manager. Minimum Qualifications
Require a bachelor’s degree in a related area, or equivalency, and 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
