Role Overview:
Come join a team of experienced and knowledgeable engineers that are building the most robust and reliable embedded control systems for new cutting-edge optical communication technology for land, sea, air and space. Help solve some of the most ambitious and challenging problems in embedded control system space that will change the way the world communicates. The ideal candidate will have experience with high speed, low latency embedded control systems. You will be responsible for developing autonomous functions to support Pointing, Acquisition & Tracking as well as other adaptive control capabilities related to critical optical communication system functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop real-time embedded software that implements high speed control, monitoring and telemetry for optical imaging and tracking systems.
- Be involved in the full life-cycle of embedded development from concept through integration, test, and release.
- Work closely with a team of firmware engineers, optical engineers, mechanical engineers, and electrical engineers to ensure algorithms meet the design goals and requirements.
- Investigate improvements and contribute to defining technical requirements.
- Run experimental activities in a lab and in the field (instrumentation, test, and data acquisition) in order to validate control system capability and robustness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and cross-regional teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience High-Speed Control Loops / Control Systems
- Experience with Digital Signal Processing & digital filters
- Development experience in a real-time operating system
- Development experience in MCU based systems
- Solid understanding of concurrency, multi-threaded, and multi-process programming
- Proficient with Unix command line scripting and tools
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to measure and tune products to meet performance design criteria
- BS/MS degree in Computer Engineering/Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years of related work experience in embedded environments (C/C++)
- Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents
Desirable Qualifications:
- Solid understanding of electronic circuits and schematics
- Experience with Adaptive Optics systems
- Experience with Hardware Design, optical, Opto-Electronic Sensors
- Experience with Model-Based Control Design
- Experience working with SoC/FPGA devices
- Experience building host-level services in Go
- Experience using Python for simulation and scientific analysis
- Familiarity with lab tools such as digital-signal analyzers, power meters, oscilloscopes, etc.
- Background in Applied Mathematics / Linear Systems
- Basic understanding of physics/optics
