Systems Administrator
W2 Contract
Location: Redwood City, CA - Hybrid Role
Job Summary:
As a Systems Administrator, you will support our virtual, cloud, and on-prem server infrastructure, managing cloud platforms, storage, and application infrastructure. This role requires a strong technical background in systems administration, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will be highly flexible, ready to step in and provide support where needed and have a proven track record of supporting complex systems and ensuring the reliability and security of critical IT services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support hybrid cloud solutions across on-premises, Azure, and AWS environments, ensuring seamless integration and optimizing performance, security, and cost-efficiency.
- Administer and maintain server hardware, operating systems, and technology platforms.
- Support VMware virtualization environments, ensuring resilience and consistent uptime for critical services.
- Support backup and recovery operations to safeguard data integrity and support business continuity.
- Install, configure, and manage system software, including operating systems, middleware, and utilities.
- Support application platform operations as needed.
- Provide service desk tier 2-3 support as needed.
- Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.
- Respond promptly to system alerts and incidents, diagnosing and resolving issues to minimize downtime and service disruptions.
- Contribute comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Collaborate with other company functions and internally with the Information Sciences team to solve technical issues and find cross-functional solutions to ongoing challenges and requirements.
- Stay informed on industry developments and emerging tech to propel innovation and improve system capabilities.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience working in a systems administrator capacity
- Proven experience in systems administration across hybrid cloud environments, including Azure, AWS, and on-premises systems (Dell and HP hardware)
- Extensive experience in managing and optimizing Windows and Linux operating systems, ensuring security, efficiency, and reliability
- Extensive experience with an Active Directory/Entra ID directory services environment
- Experience supporting and managing an Office 365 environment, including Exchange, SharePoint, Entra ID, Teams, and Intune.
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies, mainly VMware, with experience in configuring high-availability environments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, evidenced by a history of enhancing system performance and resolving complex technical issues
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience with storage solutions, including SAN, NAS, and cloud storage, with the ability to manage and optimize these systems for peak performance.
- Strong experience with IT management and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, Jamf, Egnyte, and Smartsheets
- Basic networking knowledge, including routing, switching, firewalls, and TCP/UDP
- Knowledge of and experience implementing standard security practices
- Experience working in a life sciences environment is preferred.
