Job Description
MindPoint Group is expanding our 24x7x365 Federal Security Operations Center (SOC) engineering team with an immediate opening for an experienced and enthusiastic Cybersecurity Systems Engineer focused on the analysis, deployment, and ongoing operations and maintenance of our Federal client’s SOC security stack. We are working to drive major client initiatives and define superior service delivery, but we need to expand the team’s capacity to accelerate analyses of alternatives, proofs of concepts, pilots, and implementations to improve the client’s defenses against external and insider threats. You will have SOC-specific security engineering expertise and work collaboratively as part of a high-performing engineering team.
What You Get To Do Every Day
- Lead and/or support analyses of alternatives and make recommendations for new security tools, technologies, and solutions in the client’s environment.
- Lead and/or support proofs of concept and pilots, then analyze and report outcomes in terms of feasibility, scalability, cost, and final recommendations.
- Develop and execute test and implementation plans for new security tools and technologies, including deployment, configurations, and rollback plans.
- Provide daily engineering oversight to ensure high availability and operability of SOC-managed security tools and applications; research and resolve service degradations and outages, perform upgrades, and other O&M type duties.
- Provide user-level access to and support for SOC-managed tools, technologies, and data within defined SLAs.
- Develop and document engineering-related processes and procedures to enhance coordination and the overall efficiency and effectiveness of SOC tools, including SOPs, IRPs, CONOPS, and DR/COOP
- Support incident response as needed for security events or incidents.
- Train and/or recommend training for SOC team members on new tools and technology.
- Remain abreast of SOC security tools and any noted vulnerabilities, highlighting the need to consider changes to the security stack where appropriate.
- Remain abreast of cutting-edge SOC tools and technologies to aid in the prevention, detection, and mitigation of threats and attacks.
Qualifications
- Appropriate US Government clearance required**
What skills are required?
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline OR equivalent experience
- The ability to work as an integral part of a high-performing SOC team is required
- Experience integrating security tools with existing architectures
- Hands-on experience in programming and scripting, e.g., Python, PERL, etc
- Hands-on experience with both Windows and Linux operating systems and networks
- Effective verbal and written communication skills include describing highly technical concepts in non-technical terms.
- Demonstrated experience with Jira and Confluence
- Understanding of recent cybersecurity policies and mandates such as EO 14028, M-21-31, and NSM-8 and their impact on SOC activities
What is ideal?
Advanced-level technical certifications with SOC tools and technologies are strongly preferred
Demonstrated experience providing technical and thought leadership for security systems engineering and integration for both on-premise and cloud-based SOC tools, applications, and solutions, including but not limited to anti-virus (AV), endpoint detection and response (EDR), intrusion detection systems (IDS), intrusion prevention systems (IPS), security information and event management (SIEM) technologies, deep packet and log analysis, email gateways, email DLP and encryption, anti-spam, web proxy applications, firewalls, load balancers, and sandbox environments
Experience with SOC ticketing, knowledge management, and reporting tools and procedures
Understanding of zero-trust architecture and tools and their impact on SOC activities
