Job Description: The Department of Information Technology in Nassau County is seeking an IT professional to manage a controlled, secure 24x7x365 Data Center. This Deputy Commissioner position will also assist the Commissioner of Information Technology in the management of several IT teams in the operations of the department.
Key responsibilities:
Oversee all data center operations, technical operations, facility management and security compliance staff and scheduling. Planning and coordinating data center activities, including system installations, upgrades, repairs and maintenance. Supervise staff and work assignments, Oversee operating system and database version controls. Monitor versions to keep current and eligibility for cyber patching.
Planning and testing of Disaster Recovery procedures.
Recognize needed change and improvements to County processes and move a plan forward to implement change. Identify efficiency improvements and implement the required changes to improve efficiency.
Manage various broadly diverse levels of staff from senior technical team members to messengers to get projects and tasks completed on a timely basis.
Manage relationships with vendors and consultants, ensuring they meet contractual obligations.
Assist the Commissioner with project management to ensure timely quality project results.
Manage staff performance and productivity.
Skills:
Knowledge on a high level of the IBM Mainframe functions sufficient to manage the mainframe team. This includes access, operating system management, application support, and the tools required to run the mainframe.
Project management skills to coordinate and prioritize various Mainframe, server group, facilities, and Database projects.
Common sense and good people skills with the ability to work with all departments and agencies in the County and prioritize tasks based on business needs.
Ability to “Think outside the box.”
Ability to speak in front of large audience, strong communication skills.
Some knowledge of GIS.
Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Graduation from a federally accredited or New York State-registered college with a Bachelor's Degree in information technology security, computer information systems, computer science, management information systems, or a related field.
Ten plus years’ experience in information technology including mainframe operations with at least 5 years supervising subordinate staff.
Relevant experience in excess of the ten years may be substituted for each year of required education.
