Under indirect supervision, the Network Engineer Senior is responsible for overseeing the installation, configuration, and support of the organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), Agency Internet Network (AIN), Intranet, and Internet, as well as other data communications systems or segments of a network system. The Network Engineer Senior ensures network hardware and software are maintained and monitors network availability to all system users, performing necessary maintenance to support network availability. Specific duties include designing, installing, configuring, documenting, testing, deploying, managing, and maintaining all network equipment, including Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches, routers, wireless hardware, firewalls, and other appliances. The Network Engineer Senior supports all required network segment/equipment moves, adds, and changes in support of ARL requirements. They ensure all network devices and appliances are running approved and up-to-date operating systems software and firmware. Routine maintenance tasks are performed regularly to ensure enterprise networks continue to function reliably, including replacing failed hardware, ensuring systems are working properly with enterprise management tools, and addressing system alerts. Additionally, the Network Engineer Senior has expertise in commonly used network-related protocols and applications, including OSPF, BGP, 802.1x, 802.11, IPSEC, IPv4/IPv6, and Remote VPN. They also have expertise with Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE) and Cisco Secure Client, including writing and maintaining Posture and Compliance Policies. The Network Engineer Senior proposes methods and technologies to assist ARL in complying with DoD and Army directives, including Zero-Trust and 'Comply 2 Connect.' They also design, install, maintain, and operate ARL Audio Visual Collaboration infrastructure and systems compliant with DISA requirements, propose solutions to improve AV/VTC space efficiency and performance, and coordinate VTC session initiation with external organizations to ensure reliable and consistent communications.
