Position Summary
Assume primary responsibility for global legal privacy compliance across the NBA and its affiliated leagues, including advising business and marketing clients on consumer privacy, managing updates to NBA privacy policy and terms of use, and overseeing outside counsel.
Major Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of the NBA’s privacy compliance program and provide legal advice related to the NBA’s data governance framework. This includes working with senior leadership and other internal constituents across the organization regarding the management and/or use of data and helping to develop and implement privacy-related policies in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Work with senior leadership and other internal constituents to develop the processes and agreements needed to accomplish the NBA’s goals related to the use of data in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Negotiate and draft data processing, services, technology, and operator agreements with third-party providers.
- Assist other members of the Legal Department to negotiate and draft data-related provisions of commercial and other agreements.
- Support the NBA’s Marketing Department by drafting and negotiating agreements and advising on initiatives related to the promotion of the NBA and its affiliated leagues.
- Perform special projects and other assignments as requested by the Legal Department’s senior leadership team.
Required Education/Professional Experience
- Law degree and admission to practice in the State of New York.
- Extensive experience advising commercial clients on consumer privacy issues (e.g., data collection and sharing, consumer disclosures, data subject access requests, data security policies).
- 8+ years of experience at a leading law firm and/or corporate privacy or corporate legal department with a focus on data privacy compliance or governance.
- Previous in-house experience preferred
Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes
- In-depth knowledge of practices, principles, frameworks, laws, and regulations relating to privacy and data governance.
- Extensive experience in drafting privacy policies and related corporate policies, and applicable agreements regarding the collection, processing, use, and sharing of consumer data.
- Experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.
- Outstanding written and oral business communication skills.
- Strong drafting and negotiating skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; flexibility and effective time management skills to balance multiple priorities.
- Creative problem-solving skills to assist in meeting business needs and seizing new opportunities, while mitigating risk and managing key relationships.

Salary Range: $220,000 - $250,000
