Ensure 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year uptime and availability of campus network operations and services.
Design, monitor and maintain the College's core network infrastructure and access layer for administrative and academic local area and wireless network infrastructure and cable plant.
Plan, direct, prioritize and communicate scheduled maintenance and outages.
Install, configure and troubleshoot network related equipment; Cisco routers, switches, Exinda packet shapers, Checkpoint/Juniper firewalls and purpose-built network appliances.
Direct Helpdesk and Telecommunications personnel on the resolution of network related problems and work order documentation.
Keep current on the use of diagnostic tools and techniques utilized in the troubleshooting and repair of network cabling, design and configuration problems.
Prepare detailed written records of network equipment location, maintenance history performance information as well as network configuration and design.
Monitor and maintain the Checkpoint Next Generation (NG1) Firewall, Application URL Filtering and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS)
Lead and participate in ITS sponsored meetings with the various departments on campus regarding activities related to network hardware and software implementations.
Provide input to leadership on the enhancement of the College's core infrastructure and campus network design.
Train other network engineers on Owens systems.
Design, monitor and maintain the College's core network infrastructure and access layer for administrative and academic local area and wireless network infrastructure.
This position requires in-depth technical knowledge of Cisco routers, switches and Access points. Network security: Checkpoint, Juniper SRXs. Network monitoring, baselines and performance tuning; Solarwinds, Orion- NCM, NPM and Netflow (Network tuning- packet shapers; Exinda). Cisco Nexus load balancers. Juno OS, IOS, NX-OS and fiber optics.
Strong fundamental knowledge of communication protocols; TCP/IP, UDP, DHCP, DNS, SLP, SNMP, HSRP, Multicast routing, EIGRP and VRF.
Identify, troubleshoot and resolve network related issues.
Direct and prioritize network troubleshooting and maintenance.
Control and maintain network security (eg. ACL's) for users, switches and routers.
Configure and troubleshoot network equipment; Cisco routers, switches, packet shapers, firewalls and network related appliances.
Critical thinking, customer service, problem solving, decision making and information gathering.
Ability to capture and read network packet traces to troubleshoot network related issues.
Use of wireshark.
Stay current and knowledgeable on the use of diagnostic tools and techniques utilized in the trouble-shooting and repair of network cabling, design and configuration problems.
Work on many diverse projects simultaneously.
Direct Helpdesk personnel in network related hardware problem resolution and work order documentation.
