Summary:
The Pearson Virtual Schools SRE team is looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to support our applications recently migrated from legacy data centers to the cloud. As an SRE, you will work alongside software engineering, rapid response, and incident management teams to create highly redundant and scalable systems in the AWS and Azure clouds.
Location: Raleigh/Durham, NC - Hybrid position working 3 days in office, 2 days remote
Responsibilities:
- Work with our engineering team to identify and implement the most optimal AWS cloud-based solutions.
- Solve complex problems.
- Ability to work independently with little to no guidance in some situations.
- Optimize performance, scale-out, and build resiliency in the platform.
- Troubleshoot priority incidents, facilitate post-mortems, and ensure permanent closure of incidents.
- Contribute to developing best practices for Infrastructure as Code, software build tools, and Continuous Integration.
- Run, operate, and upkeep Pearson Cloud systems.
- Administration of Cloud services, monitoring, logging, and alerting.
- Support automation services and scripting for cloud deployment and migrations.
- Reduce and remove toil through automation.
- Support cross-cloud applications (AWS and Azure).
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation.
Qualifications - Desired Experience:
- 5+ years of experience architecting, designing, developing, and implementing cloud solutions on AWS platforms.
- Advanced understanding of the following AWS Services; EC2, ECS, IAM, Cloudwatch, Lambda, FSx, ECR, S3, EFS, Route53, Elasticache.
- Infrastructure as Code - CloudFormation or Terraform.
- Experience with containers – Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
- Advanced experience automating tasks and services with PowerShell, Python, Ruby, Go, bash, and/or similar programming language.
- Experience with the Linux and Windows Server Operating Systems, Active Directory, and IIS.
- Strong understanding and experience with the five pillars of well-architected frameworks.
- Experience in monitoring cloud-based systems using tools like NewRelic, CloudWatch, Datadog, etc.
- Ability to debug and optimize code and automate routine tasks.
- Familiarity with agile software development lifecycle. – Jira.
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools like Git.
- Experience with one or more programming skills like C#, Java, or Golang.
- Experience in designing, analyzing, and solving large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong Knowledge of networking protocols and cybersecurity best practices in a cloud environment.
- Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines – w/ Azure Devops and GitHub.
Preferred Skills:
- AWS Solution Architect Associate certification is desirable.
- Hashicorp Terraform certification is desirable.
Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the Colorado, California, Washington State, New York State and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:
The minimum full-time salary range is between $120k- 140k.
