The Sr. Manager, Network Engineering will manage and direct the staff of the Network Engineering Department. This role is accountable for Switch and Power engineering functions. In this role, you will determine user requirements and design specifications for switching networks. Plan and implement network and power upgrades. Establish a strong forward looking vision for the on-going evolution and future architecture of Alaska Communications network, driving strategic and operational / tactical network planning. Essential Functions
•Responsible for day-to-day Network Engineering Operations Team by supervising engineers and other staff in the design and implementation of network solutions. The Sr. Manager of Network Engineering is responsible for coordinating, staffing and planning to accomplish business strategies outlined by the VP of Engineering. They will assist with setting direction, strategy and work plan for Network Engineering operations, identifying resources, developing and implementing programs to achieve business initiatives, and coaching and mentoring staff to their full potential.
•Communicate with customers, sales staff, or marketing staff to determine customer needs. Develop and implement solutions for network problems.
•Develop or recommend network security measures, such as firewalls, network security audits, or automated security probes. Develop disaster recovery plans.
•Prepare detailed network specifications, including diagrams, charts, equipment configurations, and recommended technologies.
•Develop conceptual, logical, or physical network designs and the related documentation.
•Evaluate network designs to determine whether customer requirements are met efficiently and effectively.
•Determine specific network hardware or software requirements, such as platforms, interfaces, bandwidths, or routine schemas.
•Coordinate network operations, maintenance, repairs, or upgrades. Coordinate installation of new equipment. Coordinate network or design activities with designers of associated networks. Estimate time and materials needed to complete projects.
•Plan and implement system changes required to keep the switching or power components of Alaska Communications’ network in compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
•Prepare or monitor project schedules, budgets, and cost control systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Bachelor’s degree in electronics and/or communications engineering or equivalent engineering disciplines. Equivalent education, experience, and training may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis plus eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional level implementation support and project management in a Network Engineering specialty area. Equivalent functional experience may be considered.
Preferred:
•Switch Engineering experience including: wire line and wireless voice switching, signaling, and messaging infrastructures.
•Telecom engineering or operations experience demonstrating proficiency in design.
Computer Skills: Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office suite, to include: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
