Position Type: Administrative StaffDate Posted: 10/2/2024Location: INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES DEPARTMENTPOSITION PURPOSE: The STEAM Integration Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing interdisciplinary curricula that integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) across K-12 academic subjects. This coordinator supports educators in blending artistic creativity with technology-driven problem-solving to create dynamic, hands-on learning experiences. The role also includes guiding assigned schools in meeting Cognia STEM Accreditation standards and fostering community engagement through the development of STEAM events and STEM/STEM after-school programs with local partners.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Curriculum Development & Integration: Design and implement STEAM curricula that integrate both technology (such as cybersecurity, computer science, and engineering) and the arts (visual arts, music, drama, etc.) to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
- Teacher Coaching & Support: Provide in-class coaching, co-teaching, and professional development to help educators develop competencies in STEAM-based and arts-integrated teaching methods.
- Collaboration: Work closely with school teams, artists-in-residence, industry professionals, and community partners to create real-world, interdisciplinary projects that connect academic content with practical applications.
- Project-Based Learning (PBL): Facilitate PBL activities that encourage students to solve complex problems, collaborate in teams, and apply both artistic and technical skills in meaningful ways.
- Cognia STEM Accreditation: Provide expert guidance and resources to schools as they work toward Cognia STEM Accreditation, ensuring that all STEAM initiatives align with accreditation standards. Support the development and implementation of evidence-based practices and instructional strategies that meet the criteria for high-quality STEM education.
- Accreditation Monitoring & Support: Assist schools in preparing documentation, meeting Cognia's benchmarks, and conducting self-assessments. Collaborate with school leaders and teachers to ensure consistent progress toward achieving and maintaining accreditation.
- STEAM Events & Community Outreach: Create, develop, and infuse STEAM events at schools and within the local community. Coordinate STEAM-focused after-school events and programs that engage neighboring community partners, promoting collaboration with local businesses, organizations, and families.
- Professional Development: Lead workshops, training sessions, and continuous learning opportunities for educators focused on integrating STEAM concepts, and accreditation standards into classroom instruction.
- Program Leadership: Support the implementation of school-wide STEAM initiatives by promoting a cohesive and innovative learning environment, leveraging the arts to engage students in STEM subjects.
- Evaluation & Feedback: Assess the effectiveness of STEAM integrated programs through data collection, classroom observations, and feedback from students and educators, and parents to drive continuous improvement.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Chief Instructional Services Officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Master’s Degree in education, arts, technology or a related field.
- Related experience (preferred).
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of four years of experience in education, preferably in roles involving STEAM, arts integration, or interdisciplinary curriculum design. Experience with Cognia STEM Accreditation processes is highly desirable.
- Skills: Strong expertise in both technology (STEM) and the arts, with a demonstrated ability to coach and mentor teachers in integrating these areas into classroom instruction. Knowledge of Cognia STEM Accreditation standards and processes.
- Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with educators, community partners, and students.
- Innovation: Ability to think creatively about curriculum design, and to inspire and guide educators in developing innovative approaches to teaching STEAM subjects while meeting accreditation standards.
- Community Engagement: Proven experience in organizing and leading community outreach initiatives, events, and after-school programs to promote STEAM education and foster collaboration with local community partners.
