Description
Role: Server Administrator/System Administrator
Location: Crownsville, MD
Duration: Longterm Contract
Job Summary
The Server Administrator/System Administrator will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of server hardware and software. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in server management, network infrastructure, and system security.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and software.
- Monitor server performance and troubleshoot issues.
- Implement and manage backup and recovery processes.
- Ensure system security through the implementation of best practices and regular updates.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
- Collaborate with the IT team to develop and implement IT policies and procedures.
- Assist with the remediation of system outages and participate in disaster recovery planning.
- Document all system configurations, changes, and incidents.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in server administration or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server and/or Linux operating systems.
- Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Familiarity with network protocols, firewall management, and security best practices.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or similar.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell or Bash.
