Overview
The AWS EKS Subject Matter Expert (SME) plays a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the AWS EKS environment within the organization. This position is essential for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of the AWS EKS infrastructure, and for providing guidance on best practices for EKS deployment and management.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing and implementing AWS EKS clusters and managing Kubernetes resources
- Developing and maintaining automation tools for EKS infrastructure
- Providing technical expertise in EKS networking, security, and performance optimization
- Collaborating with development teams to optimize application deployment on EKS
- Creating and maintaining EKS monitoring and alerting solutions
- Leading EKS capacity planning and resource optimization efforts
- Participating in incident response and troubleshooting for EKS-related issues
- Ensuring compliance with security and governance policies for EKS environment
- Assisting in the evaluation and adoption of new EKS-related technologies and features
- Knowledge sharing and training for EKS best practices and use cases
- Participating in on-call rotation for EKS support
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Professional AWS certification such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing AWS EKS environment
- In-depth understanding of Kubernetes and hands-on experience with EKS
- Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
- Expertise in AWS networking, security, and IAM
- Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, or similar
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices
- Proven track record in troubleshooting and performance tuning of EKS environment
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional team environment
- Ability to work independently and lead EKS-related initiatives
- Understanding of cloud cost management and optimization
- Experience with other AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, and CloudWatch
- Familiarity with containerization and microservices architecture
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies and tools
