The professionals in 38North’s Cloud Security Advisory and Engineering practices help organizations build compliant cloud solutions into their overall business strategy. This includes supporting our clients to identify and understand their cyber risk exposure to design and implement cybersecurity programs and solutions to mitigate cyber threats and protect their assets. As a member of 38North’s Cloud Security Engineering team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with our clients and deliver technical cloud engineering services with a focus on supporting the design and implementation of operational security strategies, solutions, and architectures with a concentration on cloud environments.
The AWS Cloud Architect will design, implement, and optimize solutions leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS). This role involves crafting scalable, secure, and highly available architectures to meet the organization’s needs while ensuring alignment with industry best practices. The AWS Cloud Architect will collaborate with stakeholders to lead cloud strategy, implementation, and maintenance across all AWS services. This is a great opportunity for remote work job seekers who want flexibility in their schedule. We’re based in Washington, DC, but you can be based anywhere in the continental US.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop and implement complex cloud architectures using AWS services.
· Design solutions for scalability, security, and fault tolerance within the AWS ecosystem.
· Work closely with the development team to identify and implement optimal cloud-based solutions.
· Document both new and existing cloud solutions for review by external auditors.
· Maintain and optimize cloud applications and infrastructure.
· Integrate with the latest 3rd party cloud security solutions.
· Build and automate deployment pipelines using IAC tools such as CloudFormation, CDK, or Terraform.
· Implement monitoring, logging, and performance optimization using AWS services (CloudWatch, X-Ray, etc.).
· Enforce best practices for IAM roles, policies, and AWS security configurations.
· Ensure compliance with government standards (e.g., FedRAMP, CMMC) through secure AWS implementations.
Required Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate is a self-starter, technically competent, able to communicate clearly and persuasively at all levels, works well with others, and takes the initiative to grow a client through awesome customer relationship management skills.
- 8+ years of experience in cloud computing, with at least 5 years of AWS-focused architecture.
- Proven expertise in a broad range of AWS services, cloud infrastructure, and networking.
- Expertise in the proper use of AWS services while following the AWS Well-Architected guidelines.
- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform, AWS CDK), scripting languages (Python, Bash, or similar).
- Hands-on experience with network security concepts: firewalls, security groups, NACLs, and traffic analysis.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (ECS, EKS, Docker, Kubernetes).
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional).
- Additional AWS certifications (e.g., Networking Specialty, Security Specialty, DevOps Engineer).
- Strong communication skills to convey technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to work collaboratively.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Experience with AWS Landing Zone Accelerator, AWS Systems Manager, AWS Inspector, AWS Config, and/or AWS Control tower.
- Familiarity with Configuration as Code (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
- Knowledge of AWS networking services: VPC, VPN, Direct Connect, Route 53, and Transit Gateway.
- Understanding of core networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP) and troubleshooting techniques.
- Experience with migrations into AWS.
- Knowledge of AWS GovCloud and it’s requirements.
