Systems Administrator – AS400 & Business Application Support
Our client, a well-respected and forward-thinking organization, is seeking a reliable and service-oriented Systems Administrator to provide on-site and remote support for business-critical applications and users across the company. This is a tactical, hands-on role focused on stabilizing legacy systems, optimizing application performance, and ensuring seamless technical support for a team that spans both in-office and mobile environments.

Key Responsibilities
Line-of-Business Application Support
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for AS400 (iSeries) operations—user access, job monitoring, troubleshooting.
- Troubleshoot SQL-based integrations, APIs, and third-party application connections.
- Assist in building and maintaining SQL reports and dashboards for operational and leadership use.
- Partner with vendors to resolve system issues, manage updates, and ensure business continuity.
- Maintain clear documentation for workflows and support processes.
End-User & Device Support
- Deliver in-person and remote support across all departments, including up to 40 remote/mobile users.
- Support mobile technologies including tablets, smartphones, and handheld scanners.
- Resolve escalated issues not handled by Tier 1 support (you’ll oversee one Tier 1 tech).
- Set up and configure desktops, devices, and peripherals to meet departmental needs.
- Provide user training on system workflows and tools to improve self-sufficiency.
- Escalate effectively to MSP or application vendors when needed.
Operational Support & Maintenance
- Act as liaison between internal stakeholders and vendors, ensuring alignment and responsiveness.
- Monitor system uptime and user access for mission-critical applications.
- Assist with user onboarding/offboarding and system provisioning.
- Support auxiliary devices such as barcode printers, label systems, etc.
What We’re Looking For
Must-Have Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of IT experience with a strong preference for Systems Administrator
- Proficiency in AS400 administration, support, and troubleshooting.
- Solid working knowledge of SQL for data queries, reporting, and basic integrations.
- Experience supporting end users and mobile devices in complex environments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills—ability to communicate clearly, listen actively, and build trust across teams.
Nice-to-Have Exposure:
- Experience with system integrations, APIs, or third-party software connections.
- Familiarity with Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, or virtualization tools is a plus.
