Description
The Desktop Virtualization Administrator I/II will provide first level support for the Virtual Desktop environment. Reporting to the Data Center Manager, they will assist the Senior Virtualization Administrators in deploying and maintaining Gaston County’s virtual desktop infrastructure systems and components. They will install, patch, upgrade, update, and document the current environments on an on-going basis. They will follow the prescribed design and documentation, deploying upgrades along with providing on-site advice for the virtual desktop environment currently in use by Gaston County.

- Contributes to project design and strategic initiatives involving virtualization and VDI.
- Works with the Infrastructure team to maximize up time and design highly available (HA) systems.
- Assists in evaluating new software and hardware for virtualization and cloud computing.
- Provides customer-focused support, maintaining a positive attitude and proactive approach.
- Demonstrates strong work ethic, high-quality output, and availability beyond standard hours.
- Uses analytical skills and critical thinking for problem identification and resolution.
- Collaborates with internal teams and vendors to develop technical solutions.
- Implements preventative maintenance and system upgrades to meet standards.
- Communicates effectively across departments, ensuring technology meets business needs.
- Acts as a Tier 2/3 liaison for user departments, vendors, and external agencies.
- Supports virtual infrastructure through troubleshooting, documentation, and updates.
- Adheres to Business Continuity, Incident Response, and Disaster Recovery Plans.
- Provides day-to-day virtual infrastructure support, including system delivery and monitoring.
- Ensures timely ticket resolution and participates in IT management processes.
- Follows IT security policies to protect assets and ensure data integrity.
- Fosters a collaborative, professional team environment.
- Pursues ongoing training to enhance skills and improve performance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Desktop Virtualization Administrator I:
Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year of experience or an Associate’s Degree and 2 years of experience in Information Technology is required.
Desktop Virtualization Administrator II
Bachelor’s Degree with 3 years of experience or an Associate’s Degree and 4 years of experience in Information Technology is required.
A valid driver's license is required for both roles. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Experience And Education
- Preference will be given to qualified candidates with Nutanix AHV, VMWare administration, and Citrix Virtual Apps experience.
- Citrix Certifications for Virtualization:
- Citrix Certified Associate (CCA)
- Citrix Certified Professional (CCP)
- Citrix Certified Engineer (CCE)
- Or equivalent certifications will also be considered
