Working as a key member of Tenaska’s Information Technology team, the Network Administrator puts security, availability, and performance top of mind every day. The ideal candidate facilitates change and improvement and seeks to positively impact and protect the operation of our organization. They are excited about technology and willing to dive into new approaches to problems and bring their best to the workplace every day. They own the “daily state” of the network and ensure customer experience excellence. Network Administrators are working to become familiar with network best practices and regularly seek deeper detail from the Engineers and Architects with whom they work. Daily focus centers around ensuring designed systems are available and operating as originally intended. They ensure any impacts to business communications and user experience are documented and resolved and mitigative measures to prevent future occurrences are implemented. They are the front line of troubleshooters across the networking footprint.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ensure network deployments and changes align with approved security protocols
- Deploy, manage, and support remote network hardware and services, including on-premises and cloud connectivity, switching, routing, firewalls, SD-WAN, and wireless technologies
- Experience with standard networking protocols such as but not limited to BGP, OSPF, IPSec, RSTP, MSTP, HSRP, MACsec, IPFIX, SNMPv3, DMVPN
- Provide excellent customer service, time management, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills in a collaborative environment
- Schedule and work with colleagues, remote site personnel, and partners for necessary network migrations, installs, upgrades, and changes
- Articulate technical details in a coherent and easily understood fashion on calls with customers
- Maintain and ensure proper creation, configuration, and monitoring of all points within the network
- Design and implement automation for predictable, repeatable tasks
- Assist with 24/7/365 on call duties, responding to and resolving production-down issues
- Continuously analyze system performance and suggest/implement tuning
- Collaborate with other members of the broader infrastructure team on cross-impacted projects
- Document and maintain documentation of network infrastructure
Education/Experience/Skills:
- Degree in MIS / CS or related is preferred
- Minimum 1 years’ experience supporting mixed vendor (Cisco, Palo Alto, Azure, Meraki Networks, Fortinet) utilizing dynamic routing, firewalls, and SDWAN/VPN technologies
- Relevant professional and/or military experience may be accepted in lieu of degree
- CCNA, PCNSA or equivalent level certification highly desired
- Customer-facing experience is required

Preferred Experience:
- Experience with switching, firewalls, routing, BGP, IPSEC VPN, OSPF, DNS, DHCP, Spanning-tree
- Experience with Meraki, Cisco, Juniper, FortiGate, Palo Alto or Azure a plus
- Prior experience with Windows Server management, specifically roles such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, PKI, NPS
- Experience or exposure to Agile methodologies
- Industry certifications such as CCNP, PCNSE, FortiGate or Juniper
