POSITION SUMMARY
The Enterprise Architecture in Engineering organization at Five Below is responsible for providing vision, roadmap, strategies, and scalable and flexible solutions aligned to the goals of IT department supporting the business capabilities. The Solutions Architect I - Enterprise will split their responsibilities between contributing to the solutions architecture, planning and designing complex development solutions, working with stakeholders to ensure we meet the needs of our business while staying in budget, mentoring and managing the work of the onshore and offshore teams, and developing the roadmap for our future platform. This role will be aligned to our Enterprise Architecture organization which focuses on enabling all the product organizations through solution frameworks, governance, end to end DevOps capabilities, and system integrations.
Job Responsibilities:
Contributes to solution architectures across all domains, evaluating alternatives based on cost, performance, and scalability, while documenting key decisions.
Crafts specifications for both cloud and on-premises components and ensures that solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, including security, while supporting project and change initiatives with technical plans.
Supports the monitoring of external trends and evaluation of emerging technologies, contributing to technology roadmaps and the dissemination of insights.
Contribute to the development of the IT engineering strategy and the strategy for software development methods, configurations, tools, and techniques.
Oversee/coordinate supporting technical work required with other Five Below IT teams, including infrastructure (e.g., network, DevOps) and upstream and downstream system owners (warehouse management systems, order management systems, InfoSec, etc.)
Develop code, scripts, and designs per business requirements when needed.
Participate in Agile rituals –daily standups, iteration planning, story huddles, retrospectives, creation of burn up chart’s inceptions, document technical work in technical stories using JIRA board, and estimate (using agile points/story sizing techniques) the work effort required to complete those stories.
Use appropriate modelling techniques when developing software following agreed software design standards, guidelines, patterns and methodology.
Partner with technical teams to formulate and align on system integration plans.
Designs detailed test cases, crafts test scripts, and automates repeatable tasks based on provided requirements or specifications, while defining precise test conditions to ensure robust testing frameworks.
Executes both manual and automated testing in line with test plans, and meticulously analyzes and reports on all test activities, results, issues, and risks to enhance software reliability and performance.
Assesses and analyses release components for input to release scheduling, and ensuring proper change control is documented and followed.
Qualifications:
Bachelors or master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
1-2 years architecting, designing and solutioning in a multi-cloud hybrid ecosystem
3-5 years delivering solutions to complex business problems, retail and OMS, collaborating with cross functional teams including infrastructure, Infosec, compliance, product owners and engineering vendors
Experience with Agile, Continuous Integration, TDD, Continuous Delivery, Pairing, Automated Testing
Good prioritization, negotiation, and communication skills
Good knowledge of design patterns
Highest level of personal integrity, and the ability to professionally manage confidential matters and exude the appropriate level of judgment and maturity
Drive operational excellence by bringing ideas to the table and go innovative in problem solving.

Required Skills:
DevOps & Automation:
CI/CD Pipelines – Expertise in tools like GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps or GitLab CI/CD.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) – Proficiency in Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation
Containerization & Orchestration – Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm charts.
Monitoring & Logging – Experience with any of New Relic, Datadog, DynaTrace, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana,
Cloud Computing
Cloud Solutions –Azure and/or AWS; deep understanding of cloud-native architectures.
Serverless Computing –Azure Functions, AWS Lambda.
Storage & Databases – Deep understanding of Blob Storage, managed data services, NoSQL
Networking & Security – Good understanding of VPC, IAM, API Gateways, WAF, VPN, Firewalls
Integration & APIs
API Design & Management – REST, GraphQL; API management tools like Azure APIM, Google Apigee
Integration Platforms – any of Apache Camel, Mulesoft, Boomi platforms; Work experience with either Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ is required
Microservices & SOA – Hands-on experience in designing microservices
ETL & Data Pipelines – Experience with Apache Airflow; Deep understanding on Databricks is a plus
