Position Summary:
The Quantitative Risk Analyst is a member of the Market Risk team who works closely with the Structured Products team to perform risk and hedge analyses on structured deals proposed by commercial teams. Their role is to independently validate economics of proposed deals, develop hedging strategies, and determine the treatment of complex deals under the TPS risk management policy. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the structuring and commercial teams in a challenging, quickly-evolving market environment.

Essential Job Functions:
- Analyze and propose feasible hedging strategies for complex deals that minimize market risk
- Independently evaluate the economics of deal proposals put forth by commercial teams
- Review complex deal structures to evaluate risk management policy compliance or implications
- Develop or contribute to presentations for management teams
- Work with the Structured Products team to improve valuation and risk analytics capabilities
The ideal candidate for this position will have a solid grasp of statistics and financial mathematics, an inquisitive and analytical mind, and a willingness to tackle difficult problems. They will be familiar with common financial derivatives and standard valuation techniques. They will have experience using Python as an analytics tool and have strong general technical acumen. They will be able to effectively communicate analysis results and technical concepts to a non-technical audience, including developing high-quality and impactful visualizations and other presentation materials.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a mathematics, finance or engineering discipline.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Strong Python coding skills and familiarity with analytics libraries (Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib)
- Familiarity with version control (Git), SQL, and database structures
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- In-depth knowledge of financial statistics and mathematics
- Ability to identify creative and elegant solutions to complex problems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce professional presentations to communicate analytics results and technical concepts
- Ability to meet deadlines efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented, analytical and inquisitive mindset
- Proactive approach toward identifying and solving problems
- Strong work ethic, team attitude and willingness to work extended hours as workload requires
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- One or more years of experience in an analytics role in the energy industry
- Experience working with an Energy Trading & Risk Management (ETRM) system
- Familiarity with time series simulation models
- Experience using Python to interact with APIs
- Familiarity with C# programming
