GCI's Access Engineer I will provide engineering design and implementation services necessary to support the company’s Access Engineering, operating groups, and Technology Solutions management. Provide expertise in the design specifications, implementation support, operational analysis, systems administration escalations, configuration, management, troubleshooting, project management support, and performance tuning with a focus on the underlying network infrastructure. Implements Internet, MPLS, DOCSIS, DPoE, and access engineering technologies, complex security network solutions, utilizing wide area and local area facilities and equipment such as routers, switches, Access routers, CMTS's, DAA, cable modems, firewalls, and IP transport.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AT ALL LEVELS: |
- Analyze requirements, finalize design to specifications, and implement solutions for new services and enhance existing IP products.

Position Title: Access Engineer I
Grade: E05
Additional Job Requirements:
This is an entry level position within the network engineer discipline. Must be competent at performing engineering calculations for further review by senior staff. Completes tasks on time and within budget. Assist in the design of solutions, plan growth, and successfully facilitate engineering projects within the Access Engineering group, focusing primarily on HFC and access technology platforms.
- HFC and PON network design - engineering estimates, configuration, and implementation of DOCSIS or Access technology equipment.
- Basic network engineering analysis and design and defining engineering standards.
- Support HFC and/or access technology platform growth.
- Platform troubleshooting, problem escalation support, platform NMS reporting support.
- Lab certification and acceptance of both hardware and software, lab design and test plan documentation.
- Short term capital and operational budgeting support.
- Basic project management related tasks in support of network growth.
Additional Competencies:
- Basic understanding and practical design experience of HFC based networks and access technologies including DAA

- Basic understanding and familiarity with ARRIS and/or Cisco CMTS’s in both configuration and troubleshooting

Minimum Qualifications:
Required: *A combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Telecommunications, or relevant field. *
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in IP network design and implementation, DOCSIS, access technology network engineering or related background. *
Preferred:
- Cisco CCNA, Nokia NRS I, SCTE DOCSIS Engineering Professional.
- Cisco CCNP, CCIE, CISSP, Nokia NRS II, or project management PMP.
- Other telecom industry or job specific certifications.
