About this opportunity:
The Divisional Senior Systems/Network Administrator is responsible for supporting the divisional network (e.g., servers, routers, communications hardware, and software, etc.), proactively addressing issues to eliminate problems, responding to and resolving trouble tickets, and participating in planning design to improve the computing experience. Supports and maintains LAN/WAN networks, is responsible for the daily activities of configuration and operation of systems, and performs administrator and support functions to ensure availability, functionality, security, and performance. This position provides Tier 2 or higher Help Desk support and is also responsible for supporting mobile devices including research, testing, troubleshooting, and deployment as needed. Serves as a subject matter expert for the Divisions and Corps. May provide guidance to Divisional Systems/Network Administrator.
Key responsibilities:
- Manages, controls, and supports the Meraki and MSO365 environment to include installation, troubleshooting, adds/moves/changes, and upgrades.
- Analyzes, tests, and resolves problems relating to mobile computing devices to ensure device functions properly on the network.
- Controls and sustains local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN) along with application operability and software utilization review.
- Designs network solutions including VoIP telephone systems, switches, firewalls, and routing. Meets with Corps Officers and personnel to evaluate the need, prepare equipment proposal, and present the solution.
- Planning, installations, programming, and configuration of firewalls, routers, and associated hardware and software used to maintain data links between Territorial Headquarters, Divisional Headquarters, and divisional field locations in conjunction with the IT manager, Network Manager and Director of Network Services.
- Serves as a technical expert for the establishment of new network environments throughout the Division; provides direction and assistance to the Corps regarding appropriate connectivity with Territorial Headquarters.
- Provides Tier 2 support to users, including analyzing, troubleshooting users’ complex problems involving various networks and distributed computing environments to ensure resolution of issues based on help desk escalation requests.
- Provides technical support to System Managers in the resolution of hardware, software or application programs; assists in the resolution of these problems by interfacing with Territorial Headquarters software development staff and hardware and software vendors.
- Visits sites to provide technical assistance and problem investigation.
- Provides technical support to computer operations, programming staff, and help desk to meet business needs.
- Manages LAN/WAN performance, security, and network administration backup within the division.
- Designates passwords, user IDs, adding and deleting users, as needed and assigning user rights to ensure proper use of equipment and to minimize risk (e.g., theft, viruses, corrupted sites, etc.)
- Evaluates network capacity to ensure systems capabilities meet corporate requirements for maintaining an effective operating network.
- Participates in Establishing, recommending, and implementing security policies and practices for systems and networks
- Monitors contracts and corresponding service level agreements to ensure required goods and services are provided in a timely manner consistent with the terms and conditions of the vendors.
- Coordinates efforts with multiple vendors and users to complete projects and resolve problems.
What we are looking for in you:
- Two years of technical college in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field required, and
- Eight years of experience performing computer software and hardware support involving inter-networking of a wide area network and server administration on local area networks. or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Certifications: Cisco CNA – Preferred, Microsoft MCSE – Preferred, Comptia Network – Preferred, CLP and/or comparable Domino/Lotus notes experience – Preferred
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy computer equipment (25-50 lbs) on a frequent basis. Physical ability to "team lift" heavy materials, supplies and equipment (50-100 lbs) occasionally. Ability to stoop, crawl and climb when necessary.
Works in a professional office setting. Physical demands include standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting, and moving computer items as needed.
