TITLE: IT Senior Systems Engineer

Position Summary:
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will lead the planning and designing of Smart Start's systems infrastructure. You will ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the system to meet business/customers' requirements. You will monitor the performance of systems and suggests improvements. Verifies and reviews system related documents/reports including installation procedures. Typically, you will work autonomously. Your goals are generally communicated in "solution" or project goal terms. You will provide a leadership role for the other Administrators and Engineers on the team, sharing your knowledge and expertise in multiple areas of specialization. You will work on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Setup, configure and maintain various IT systems
- SME knowledge of SANs, Servers, firewalls, Hypervisors, and data protection appliances to third-party applications and custom-built enterprise applications.
- Provision new physical and virtual servers as needed
- Maintain an internal IT how-to wiki for team cross-training purposes
- Assist with maintaining a technical self-help knowledge base for Smart Start staff
- Perform troubleshooting to isolate, diagnose, and remedy common IT problems
- Report on network and IT service performance to predict needs for future growth
- Provide the IT Manager with periodic utilization trends reports for IT systems
- Contribute to continuous system and service improvement through regular reviews
- Support backup infrastructure to ensure data-protection goals are met
- Support infrastructure needed for various local and remote datacenters such as generators, battery backup units, and environmental controls
- Maintains technical knowledge by utilizing provided training materials, attending technical workshops, reviewing professional publications
- Provides emergency on-call support on a rotating schedule
- Any other duties assigned by the IT Manager
Position Requirements
- Knowledge of Cloud environments: AWS and Azure
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and the MS Office Suite
- Intermediate knowledge of network design and principals
- 10+ years Systems/Network administration experience on Windows Server platforms
- Knowledge of Windows 2012 through 2022 Server environments
- Working knowledge of VOIP and IP Telephony systems
- Solid experience with backup software like Veeam and/or BackupExec
- Solid knowledge of Server and PC hardware, including laptops, desktops, switches, firewalls, routers, network and phone wiring
- Ability to read and write clear and understandable instructions
- Ability to handle multiple tasks at a time
- Candidates must be able to work varying hours and travel when required (less than 5%)
- Must demonstrate excellent organization, prioritization, follow up and time management skills
- Must be able to document project and task work and provide documented updates
- Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills within a technical environment.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to positively interact with all levels of the organization
- Must have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Must have the ability to lift servers, network, and storage equipment up to 50 lbs.
