The Network Administrator II is responsible for designing, implementing, testing, administering and maintaining IT networks and their associated software/hardware (network function virtualization, routers, switches, firewalls, load-balancers, wireless controllers and access points; network operating systems - Cisco IOS/IOS-XE, Cisco NX-OS, FortiOS, Cloud Network OS).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Plans, designs, installs, configures, maintains and manages:
- WAN, LAN, wired and wireless network infrastructures
- Network routing protocols
- Network optimization technologies and techniques
- Network monitoring tools
- Assists with the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of IT network systems high availability, backup and disaster recovery, management and monitoring systems; systems maintenance scheduling and automation
- Supports investigation of incidents throughout the wan, lan, wired and wireless network infrastructures. This position will need to interact with senior members of the IT operations team as well as IT security and governance personnel
- Develops IT network operations playbooks, practices and procedures. Provides provide guidance and documented standards on policies, practices and procedures to ensure availability of network and technology infrastructure
- Reviews and health checks existing environments
- Provides Third-Line support point of contact for escalations and root cause analysis
- Provides reporting and analysis as needed for network, systems and security analysts
- Other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: - 7+ years' enterprise IT experience
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Information Technology (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- A professional designation in information technology such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), etc. is preferred
- Knowledge and experience with QoS, VRF, MPLS, and network routing protocols
- Experience with Cisco IOS (routers and switches) and Cisco OS
- Experience with FortiOS (firewalls, switches and access points)
- Experience, knowledge and use of wireless solutions (Controllers, and AP)
- Experience, knowledge and use of network monitoring tools
- Demonstrated high-level of personal integrity and honesty
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities: - Knowledge in setup, configuration, administration, of wired and wireless networks
- Knowledge in setup, configuration, administration, of firewalls/firewall clusters and multi-site policy configurations
- Strong organization and documenting skills
- Solid understanding of LAN and WAN networking
- Demonstrated ability to foster strong working relationships
Security Clearance Requirements: This position requires the successful applicant to pass a security clearance.
Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: Permanent, full-time
HOURS OF WORK: 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday; 35 hours per week, plus occasional overtime which is sometimes unscheduled; on call as deemed required.
SALARY: As per the NSGEU 222 Collective Agreement, Level 6 (Information Services); $52.89 per hour
WORK LOCATION: 13th Floor, Barrington Tower, Halifax; required travel frequently to other HRM facilities.
