DescriptionThe Senior Systems Administrator will maintain, upgrade and provide support for software, hardware, and networks. The Systems Administrator needs to be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly be available to respond to help desk requests - potentially after hours. The individual should be able easily to communicate technical concerns and solutions to many different people with varying degrees of technical knowledge as well as work with individuals in all department to help solve their technical issues. The Systems Administrator is also responsible for maintaining our system infrastructure, including firewalls, testing computer equipment, backing up databases, installing and updating malware software, installing and rebuilding existing servers as well as other processes.
As a Penske Senior Systems Administrator - MS and Storage you will be responsible for Installing and setting up Windows systems and servers. You will practice asset management, including maintenance of network inventory, life cycle management and related documentation. You will also develop servers and provide support to individual users to ensure that the system works reliably and quickly
Responsibilities
• Manage system infrastructure consisting of HCi platforms and standalone intel based server platforms.
• Monitor daily and respond quickly to any usability concerns.
• Assist in integrating new applications and technologies.
• Regularly upgrade systems as needed
• Lead small projects
• Provide technical support for both hardware and software issues that may arise.
• Install and set up Windows systems, servers and relative storage platforms
• Develop servers and provide support to individual users to ensure that the system works reliably and quickly - Proficient in managing AD user accounts, groups.
• Apply security to files shares and other areas.
• Expected to participate in problem solving, analytical, communication, and team processing skills - participate in Design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to make certain infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements.
• Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures
• Practice asset management, including maintenance of network inventory, life cycle management and related documentation.
• Provides “ownership” of problem thru final resolution.
• Plan, acquire, and coordinate installation of in-house and remote hardware and software across the organization.
• Participate in research and make recommendations on server products, services, protocols, and standards in support of server procurement and development efforts.
• Support end users on issues in the ticketing system daily.
• Respond to monitoring system alerts with immediate fixes and preventative remedies.
• Stay abreast of latest changes, features, and security practices for enterprise servers and storage infrastructure.
• Participate in on-call rotation.
• Perform activities related to installing, configuring and managing SAN devices and fiber channel switches.
• Work with application developers to determine storage and server requirements
• Monitor usage, performance, availability and reporting on status of storage and windows server environments.
• Make recommendations on existing systems enhancements
QualificationsQualifications
• Associate’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering or related field. If no degree, then at least 2 years of specific (function) administration experience required.
• Minimum of 2 years of system engineering and IT support required
• Ability to respond to service desk requests after hours.
• knowledge of system security concerns and vulnerabilities.
• Familiarity with operating systems.
• Microsoft certification preferred or equivalent experience.
• 1+ years of project participation (including mid-to-large scale projects, and managing multiple projects at one time)
• Experience in the following hardware/software (depending on role):
o Disk storage platforms
o Networking concepts
o Windows server monitoring
o Active Directory knowledge
o Industry trends - HCI, Cloud etc.
o Microsoft office applications (including Visio)
• Demonstrated knowledge and comfort with Local Area Network theories and concepts.
• Storage experience SAN, NAS, Hyper-Converged, and Cloud
• Strong technical experience supporting, administration and troubleshooting Server operating systems and applications
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
