Our Information Technology team designs, builds, operates, and maintains infrastructure in support of INIT software solutions deployed for our customers. We are looking for a mid to senior-level IT Systems Engineer with 5-10 years of experience in one or more functional areas including Cloud, Network, Compute, Database, Security & Compliance, and Operations.
As an IT Systems Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on long-term, enterprise-class technology projects that affect critical infrastructure in major US metropolitan areas and are used by millions of people. You will identify new systems, architectures, tools, and technologies to improve the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and the processes of building those systems. Candidates should have broad experience and operate confidently across the IT discipline while having a specific interest or specialization in one or more focus areas. Ideal candidates have strong soft skills such as writing, editing, speaking, presenting, documenting, and designing as the role can be both highly technical behind-the-scenes work as well as customer facing.
Knowledge:
5-10 years of experience in one or more functional areas and technologies listed below:
Cloud: Azure, Azure AD, Compute, Load Balancers, Storage, Intune, Application Gateway, API Management, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery, Event Hub, Cloudflare, Automation (Terraform, Bicep, Ansible).
Network: Firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless including VPN, NAT, VLAN, HA, and routing. Cloud networking, storage networking, load balancers, proxies, and security related technologies such as IDS and IPS.
Compute: Windows Server, Active Directory, Powershell, VMWare, Storage, Containers, Windows 10/11, group policy, scripting, replication, and clustering.
Security & Compliance: Experience with ISO27001, NIST CSF, SOC2 compliance frameworks including policies, processes, control selection and implementation. System hardening, testing, vulnerability management, patching, endpoint protection, certificates, IAM, WAF, and incident response.
Operations and Support: Monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, documentation, backup, disaster recovery, patching, remote assistance, and end-user support.
Collaboration: Exchange, Cisco UCS, Cisco Jabber, Microsoft Teams, Office 365, SharePoint.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, operate, and maintain systems or take responsibility for operating and maintaining complex systems built by other engineers.
- Serve, at times, in customer facing roles requiring significant interaction with external customers and communicating technical details in writing, remotely, or in person.
- Serve, at times, in highly technical roles requiring technical expertise in multiple IT domains.
- Design new and improve existing processes to automate, simplify, or bring efficiency to systems deployment and management.
- Work closely and collaboratively with other IT, Development and System Engineering staff to determine new solutions, fix problems, and accomplish project outcomes on time and on budget.
- Own and manage one or more IT projects, either internal or external, as well as one or more technologies used across multiple projects to become subject matter experts on those systems and tools.
Physical/Mental Demands, Work Environment and Expectations:
- Ability to work on-site at multiple customer locations throughout North America and must have the ability, including having a valid passport, and willingness to travel up to 25% including to international locations such as Canada and Germany.
- Ability to work in non-standard environments including datacenters, network closets and in and around public transit vehicles and locations including bus yards, train yards and maintenance facilities.
- Ability to carry or work with equipment up to 50lbs as well as to be able to ascend/descend stairs, kneel and squat.
- Ability to adjust work hours based on customer requirements around both planned and unplanned events.
Education and Skills:
- Relevant Associate's or Bachelor’s degree, and/or certifications are highly desirable.
- Strong soft skills such as writing, editing, speaking, presenting, documenting, and designing.
Work Location:This position will be based at our North American corporate headquarters located in Chesapeake, Virginia (hybrid schedule).
