Physical Demands
Predominantly operates in an office environment though significant periods of time may be spent in computer room and communications equipment spaces for installation, testing, and troubleshooting. Some work (less than 5%) requires moving and lifting of heavy communications equipment. Position also requires being on call to provide some outside of business hours support. This position is considered an essential position and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergencies to help maintain continuity of University services.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Experience: Six (6) to (9) years of professional experience supporting the operations, maintenance, and administration of information technology infrastructure. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Advanced-level understanding of IP routing, Ethernet switching, wireless, IP multicast routing, VOIP , QoS, network management principles, firewalls, VPNs, network security principles, network capacity planning and management. In depth technical and “hands-on” knowledge of protocols and standards: TCP /IP, 802.1x, NAC , OSPF , BGP , IPSec, VxLAN / EVPN , SNMP , DNS , DHCP , GRE , IPAM and NTP . Hands on experience with enterprise level routers, switches, firewalls and network load balancers. Strong ability to troubleshoot configuration-level, as well as architecture-level trouble scenarios across multiple network devices and platforms. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to to lead presentations with small to medium sized groups. Able to organize and provide direction to junior staff members. A demonstrated commitment to customer service. Provides leadership and helps bridge the gap between team manager and team members on technical topics. Ability to effectively manage workload and delivery assignments on time. Skilled in the use of office productivity software such as Office 365 or Google Workspaces.
