Shift4 is expanding globally and building up our technical teams! We are seeking a Database administrator that will be responsible for maintaining and advancing mission critical Cloud Databases. Work closely with the engineering teams and Cloud DevOps to ensure availability, scalability and performance of the database platforms.
This role is an onsite / hybrid role based at any of the Shift4 core locations: Center Valley, PA (HQ), Las Vegas, NV, Tampa, FL, Morrisville, NC, and Atlanta, GA. Relocation assistance may be available.
Responsibilities:
- Work as a part of the data team to monitor and manage mission critical databases across environments
- Setup, optimize and maintain multiple databases instances
- Monitoring for critical issues & general health of database environment
- Planning / Implementation of data migrations
- Setting up automation for routine maintenance
- Work closely with the Application and DevOps teams and support the teams during critical support / on-call escalations
- Performance tuning of the databases and SQL
- Manage user access and security
- Support for migrating, cleaning and hashing data across the database environments for use by the development and testing teams
- Part of a global team which will provide some on-call rotation for 24X7 coverage, with compensation for incidents
Requirements:
- 6+ years of experience working as a database administrator, devops or similar role
- 4+ years of experience working with Databases in Cloud environments (AWS preferred)
- 4+ years of managing or working with PostgreSQL in production environments
- 6+ years in the software engineering industry
- Experience designing and implementing indexing, partitioning, sharding and other optimization or scaling strategies
- Analyzing monitoring/tuning tools and internal statistics to deliver tuning improvements
- Deploying and maintaining databases in a multi-tenant cloud environment
- Hands on experience with AWS RDS, Cloudwatch, DMS
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline or relevant work experience
Nice to have:
- Distributed systems with asynchronous communication
- Javascript, python, familiarity with ORMs would be a plus, especially Sequelize.
- Gitlab, Docker Containers, Confluence, JIRA
