Our client is seeking a full-time Senior Mechanical Reliability Engineer. Hybrid. This individual may reside in Midland/Odessa, Houston, or Dallas. Travel to the Midland area in 1st year is around 50%-75% of the time.

Responsibilities: The Mechanical Reliability Engineer is an integral part of the Permian Operations Group, supporting plant operations and driving efforts to enhance reliability. Working collaboratively in a team environment, the engineer will be responsible for implementing best practices in reliability, optimizing preventive maintenance tasks, and providing support for maintenance activities. The role involves collaborating with other technical teams (such as process engineering, maintenance, and capital projects) and liaising with vendors/suppliers as necessary to resolve issues and improve plant reliability and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply data analysis techniques to devise engineering solutions for recurring failures and other issues that have adverse effects on plant operations, including capacity, quality, cost, and regulatory compliance.
- Consult with colleagues across the company to exchange ideas and expertise.
- Serve as a resource and conduit for sharing best practices and leveraging opportunities for operational improvement throughout the site and organization.
- Provide technical support and expertise within the respective discipline during the design and installation stages of projects involving new assets and modifications to existing assets, with the aim of minimizing life cycle costs and maximizing asset availability.
- Develop maintenance procedures and checklists to ensure efficient and effective maintenance practices.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, evaluating their applicability in enhancing reliability, performance, and reducing maintenance costs.
- Lead or participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis activities.
- Systematically define, design, develop, monitor, and refine an asset maintenance plan that encompasses:
- Criticality analysis
- Value-added preventive maintenance tasks, including the establishment of lubrication programs, oil analysis, vibration monitoring, infrared monitoring, etc.
- Effective utilization of predictive and other non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems.
- Apply value analysis to repair/replace, repair/redesign, and make/buy decisions.
- Provide technical support to production, maintenance management, and technical personnel.
- Lead teams focused on mechanical reliability improvement, guiding efforts to ensure the reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, controls, and safety systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the refining, petrochemical, chemical process, or power generation industries. Would really like this Engineer to have about 10-12 years of experience (preferred).
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication of complex issues across the organization, as well as for mentoring and building consensus.
- The successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of business drivers, change management requirements, reliability processes, and maintenance workflow. The individual should possess or develop basic proficiency in the following areas, with the ability to become a subject matter expert:
- Fundamental knowledge of industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ANSI).
- Rotating Equipment (e.g., pumps, steam turbines, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, blowers, gearboxes).
- Fixed Equipment (e.g., piping, flange make-up, pressure vessels, heat exchangers).
- Machinery diagnostics and equipment repair.
- Component failure analysis.
- Reliability Engineering concepts.
- Reliability data analysis techniques.
- Predictive and Preventive Maintenance concepts.
- Ability to utilize Computer Based Maintenance systems (CMMS).
- The role requires up to 75% travel to Midland during the 1st year of employment.
