Job Description
The Network Engineer will be able to design, implement, and operationally support the network and security infrastructure utilizing the breadth of Cisco Networked devices including Routers, Switches, Firewalls, and Intrusion Detection and Prevention. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that their technical solutions leverage industry best practices and are designed to meet industry accepted security requirements. Lastly, the candidate will be providing customer and network support to ensure the day-to-day operational needs are met.
Responsibilities:
- Design to-be-architecture of NS3’s network topology road map to include but not limited to existing and future requirements, propose and implement new solutions, oversee the installation of networking hardware in addition to maintaining, supervising and troubleshooting the existing network.
- Maintains inventory of network equipment, IP addresses, service locations, maintenance agreements, and leased lines. Expeditiously troubleshoot, identify, and rectify network problems, design flaws, and outages while maintaining the security posture of the network.
- Monitor NS3’s network and let leadership know about any emerging requirements or necessary updates.
- Make long-term strategic recommendations to improve the overall health of the NS3 network and support business objectives.
- Ability to map business requirements to technical solutions. Ensures optimal design, operation, interoperability and performance of network related hardware and software.
- Adheres to problem resolution and escalation procedures, documenting, and responding to all related system problems and resolving them on a timely basis. Notifies manager of problem areas and develops backup strategy and emergency plans.
- Assist in developing, implementing, testing, and maintaining disaster recovery architectural plans.
- Draft, maintain, and update as required all network drawings and design documentation. Perform a wide range of network administration duties including installations, debugging, maintenance, upgrades, and general support for Cisco, Pal Alto, and other hardware equipment.
- Evaluate, test, and deploy all software and hardware upgrades to the networking infrastructure. Assist in the configuration and deployment/operations of core network devices not limited to routers, switches, firewalls, Servers, Intrusion Detection and Protective Devices, TACLANES, etc.
- Collect and review network utilization data for capacity and planning purposes Assist in developing, implementing, testing, and maintaining disaster recovery architectural plans.
- Setup proactive monitoring of all network devices, services, and servers using a combination of tools to ensure high availability and SLA’s and train team members. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging tools and technologies.
- Work closely with the fellow tech team members to provide end-user support and issue resolution. Collect and review network utilization data for capacity and planning purposes
- Keeps abreast of industry trends and changes in network software and hardware technologies in order to improve current service levels. Interface with vendors for procurement & maintenance of all IT infrastructures.
- Recommends best technical options that are tested and proven to meet current and projected demands.
- Overall networking engineering and knowledge of cisco devices, switches and routers.
- Knowledge with encryption devices – TACLANES be able to use their management software or an ability to learn
- Configuration of the network roll outs.
- Strong firewall knowledge, specifically Palo Alto.
- Excellent attention to detail, maintain network inventory, assist with tracking devices and create an organization structure to track efficiently.
- Responsive communications.
- Tracking network information – IPs, deployed equipment, Solar Winds information.
- Good interpersonal skills.
Required Skills:
- US Citizenship. “Active” Top Secret with eligibility to obtain Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance.
- A Master’s degree (or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a scientific or technical discipline, 10 years' experience.
- Must possess one of the following Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE), and/or Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr) professional certifications.
- Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) 4 Foundation certification must be completed within 6 months.
- Expertise and knowledge with the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) Instruction No. 1253, Privacy Act of 1947, and implementing systems that contain Sensitive Information.
- Architect must have a vast of experience with Cisco and Pal Alto hardware, software and technology products.
- Strong understanding of IP subnetting and routing protocols. Experience architecting solutions with Virtual Desktop Infrastructures and server virtualization software (VMware vSphere, Microsoft and CITRIX) in a large organization.
- Ability to deploy and manage complex network LAN/WLAN/MAN/WAN infrastructures.
- Ability to understand concepts behind subnets, variable length subnet masks (VLSM), and virtual LANs (VLAN).
- Must demonstrate strong information security engineering skills and operational experience, including but not limited to Identity and Access Management, network security, endpoint security, cryptographic, and cyber analytics.
- Strong knowledge of federal security regulations, NIST guidelines, and industry security In-depth experience leading the design and integration of enterprise-level technical solutions and service management solutions.
- Strong capability and extensive experience in capturing technical requirements and defining technical solutions in the form of conceptual, logical, and physical designs, including the ability to articulate those concepts both verbally and in writing requirement benchmarks.
- Ability to synthesize solution design information, architectural principles, available technologies, third-party products, and industry standards to formulate a system architecture that meets NS3’s requirements and can be delivered within the desired timeframe.
- Experience with DevOp solutions and associated management solutions. Advanced knowledge of networking infrastructure, including ICAM, VDI, LAN, WAN, etc. Knowledge of major security tools in various security control categories. Solid understanding of various operating systems. Must have 10 years of professional experience in a medium to large size organization with complex networks.
