Role: Mainframe Operator / Mainframe Technician / Batch Support
Description:
The candidate will work in the Command Center of a large, 24X7 multinational bank holding company where mainframe availability is mission-critical. The candidate will need the ability to work remotely using virtual connectivity techniques such as phone, chat, Skype and Zoom. Training will be limited and the candidate must have all required technical skills and strong general (soft) skills. The role requires the judicious exercise of privileged Mainframe access and rigorous adherence to security and operational policies.
General Skills Required:
-Strong attention to detail.
-Strong English written and verbal skills (able to communicate to customers and stakeholders).
-Ability to digest security, cybersecurity, and policy training documents.
-Familiarity with Service-Now ticketing software.
-Experience with Skype for Windows and Zoom.
-Familiarity with Windows interface and toolsets.
-Excellent MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook skills.
-Ability to create and improve technical procedural documentation.
-Knowledge and experience with high-availability environments a plus.
Technical Skills Required:
-Strong experience and knowledge of industry standard command line interface tools and hardware consoles.
-Operational knowledge of Mainframe z/OS, TSO commands, Console, JCL, Batch Execution and Monitoring.
-Complete familiarity with the IBM Master Console interface.
-Experience with at least two of the following monitoring tools: Omegamon, Sysview, Netview, Focalpoint, and Tivoli Enterprise Portal.
-Have strong familiarity with Job Entry Subsystem (JES) commands on the mainframe.
-Perform scheduled and unscheduled system shutdown and startup (IPL) utilizing the Hardware Management Console (HMC); perform environmental verifications after IPL is complete.
-Perform and verify system configuration changes as specified during weekend maintenance / shutdown periods.
-Perform POR (Power on Reset) via the Hardware Master Console.
-Familiarity with CICS and file control (ability to allocate and deallocate).
-Identify issues (e.g. spool issues) using commercially available monitoring tools (e.g. Omegamon, Sysview, Netview) and resolve using JES commands.
-Familiarity with controlling system tasks via with IBM System Automation or CA Ops MVS.
-Must have strong expertise in Tivoli Workload Scheduler 9.3 (or above) in an end-to-end environment and experience with event-based scheduling.
-Experience using CA-11 (CA Workload Automation Restart Option for z/OS Schedulers)
-Monitor all batch flow processing and insure timely completion of endpoints/milestones. Identify delays or bottlenecks using proprietary and vendor tools and resolve or escalate accordingly.
-Perform level 1 and level 2 support and resolution for all batch abends.
-Track incoming and outgoing transmissions ensuring they meet deadlines, escalating to appropriate vendors and Datacenter Management when necessary.
-Monitor real time performance of the computing environment utilizing automated solutions, 3rd party monitoring software and in-house proprietary tools.
-Track and document all outages and incidents which adversely impact the environment
Preferred Skills:
-Knowledge of IBM Z Mainframe and z/OS
-Knowledge of OS/390 Operations
-JCL and batch problem diagnostic skills
-Knowledge of Data Transfer protocols ?NDM, FTP?ITIL certification a plus.
-Previous Financial Firm experience
