Corvid Technologies seeks qualified candidates for our Aerothermodynamics group. Applicants should have advanced degrees (MS, Ph.D.) in aerospace with a focus in Computational Fluid Dynamics and/or thermal analysis. Experienced applicants must be able to demonstrate a background in aerothermal analysis with at least 5 years of experience.
This position supports defense applications for a variety of high-speed vehicle programs. The successful candidate will perform aerothermal analysis on complex hypersonic problems to characterize aerothermodynamic heating to a system, perform thermal material response analysis to model the response of thermal protection systems (TPS) including ablation, and work with the Corvid team to develop internal tools and capabilities to support production work. Corvid uses a variety of computational approaches to solve these problems using internally developed tools and methods, as well as government and commercial software packages. Candidates should be familiar with running and analyzing results from CFD applications, either commercial or research, but familiarity with a specific code is not a requirement.
Responsibilities:
- Grid generation and development on complex internal/external geometries
- Development and execution of CFD solutions and application of the results to systems of interest
- Development of component and/or system-level thermal finite element models and analysis execution
- Execute analysis of ablative TPS materials
- Support aerothermal testing activities as-needed including test design, data collection, and data analysis
- Day-to-day informal and formal report generation
- Support proposal development on an as-needed basis
Requirements:
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
- Strong background in fluid dynamics
- Strong background in thermodynamics
- Experience developing aerothermodynamic environments for high-speed systems
- Experience using thermal analysis tools
- Ability to succeed in fast-paced environments
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a team setting
- Outstanding time-management and multi-tasking skills
- Thermostructural knowledge is a plus
- Previous experience working ground and/or flight testing of hypersonic systems is a plus
Why Corvid:
Founded in 2004, we are a group of over 300 engineers and scientists, about 3/4 with master’ degrees or Ph.D.'s, that provide end-to-end solutions including concept development, design and optimization, prototype build, test and manufacture. We leverage the predictive capability of our high-fidelity computational physics solvers, indigenous massively parallel supercomputer system, prototyping plant, and ballistics and mechanics lab to investigate a variety of high-rate physics phenomena.
The results are complex engineering solutions for a variety of applications; aircraft, ballistic missile defense, cybersecurity, motorsports, armor development, biological systems, and missile and warhead design and development. These results are achieved with optimal design and cost efficiency due to the predictive capability of Corvid’s tools and our in-house, end-to-end integrated approach, which differentiates Corvid from the market.
