We currently have an opening for a Global Compliance Manager. The Global Compliance Manager is a key position that is recognized as a critical function for business success. In this position, the Global Compliance Manager will lead and manage the certification and compliance efforts of PI’s global portfolio of instruments, analyzers, spectrometers, and laser-based measurement devices. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of global certification standards (UL, CE, CSA, ATEX, IECEx, etc.), with specific expertise in compliance for hazardous locations, electrical and mechanical standards, and EMI testing, including familiarity with key standards such as IEC 60079 (for explosive atmospheres).
This role will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and managing policies and processes to streamline certification and compliance workflows, ensuring that our products meet all regulatory requirements. The Global Compliance Manager will play a key role in reducing certification expenses, time to market while mitigating business risks and supporting the efficient manufacture and distribution of innovative products worldwide.
This role can be based out of our Houston, TX, Pittsburgh, PA or Horsham, PA locations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Global Certification Management
- Lead and oversee the process of identifying, recommending, and obtaining the correct level and types of product certification in accordance with global regulatory bodies, including but not limited to UL, CE, CSA, ATEX, IECEx, FM, and other applicable certification standards.
- Ensure product compliance with hazardous location standards, including:
- IEC 60079 series (Electrical apparatus for explosive atmospheres)
- ANSI/ISA 12.12 (Non-incendive electrical equipment for use in Class I, Division 2 Hazardous Locations)
- EN 60079 (European standards for explosive atmospheres)
- Oversee compliance with standards related to instrumentation and electrical safety, including:
- IEC 61010 (Safety requirements for electrical equipment for measurement, control, and laboratory use)
- IEC 61326 (EMC requirements for electrical equipment for measurement, control, and laboratory use)
- ISO/IEC 17025 (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories)
- Policy and Process Development
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve company-wide compliance and certification policies to accelerate and simplify the manufacturing process of instruments, analyzers, spectrometers, and laser-based devices.
- Create and standardize internal processes to ensure consistent adherence to global compliance requirements and minimize risk.
- Establish best practices for maintaining certification, managing compliance audits, and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with R&D, product development, quality assurance, and manufacturing teams to ensure products are designed and produced in compliance with applicable standards.
- Serve as a liaison between the company and external certification agencies and regulatory bodies, ensuring timely certification approvals and renewals.
- Lead compliance analysis, vendor integration and resolving Compliance issues and mentoring stakeholders on necessary technical regulatory requirements and information (Americas, EMEA and Asia countries).
- Risk Management & Documentation
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation and records for certification and compliance, ensuring these are rigorously controlled, updated, and revision-controlled.
- Conduct internal audits and gap analyses to identify redundant standards and potential risks related to global compliance and recommend the correct level of certification to minimize cost and time to market while reducing business risks.
- Ensure continuous alignment with evolving regulatory standards and provide leadership on certification strategies to minimize the impact on product development timelines.
- Training & Support
- Provide training and support to internal teams on regulatory requirements, certification processes, and compliance best practices.
- Monitor global regulatory changes, particularly in hazardous locations and instrumentation standards, and proactively communicate implications to internal stakeholders.
- Applies equal amounts of skills and dedication to all other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in compliance and leading certification management within the instrumentation or electronics industry, with expertise in hazardous locations and global certification standards (UL, CE, CSA, ATEX, IECEx, FM).
- Strong knowledge of hazardous location standards such as IEC 60079, ATEX Zone 1, and NEC Articles 500-505.
- Familiarity with electrical and mechanical compliance standards such as IEC 61010 and IEC 61326.
- Experience with EMI testing and EMC standards for instrumentation.
- Proven ability to develop and implement compliance and certification processes in a global environment.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills with experience collaborating cross-functionally.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on risk management and process improvement.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with laser-based or spectrometry devices is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with software compliance and cybersecurity regulations is a plus.
- Certifications in compliance management, quality systems, or regulatory affairs are advantageous.
