The regional Software Engineer for technology projects across the Americas region Ports and Terminals (P&T) portfolio with an emphasis on implementing DP World’s Zodiac Cargoes terminal operating system (TOS) along with the suite of other DPW global products will work with technology teams to define technical requirements to ensure systems and applications meet business needs and assist in determining project feasibility.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Work with terminal technology teams across the portfolio to collect, categorize, and organize existing configurations, customizations, and integrations in TOS
- Collaborate with business unit (BU), regional, and group technology teams to design standardized approaches and functionality with the goal of reducing variation among TOS configurations across business units
- Serve as regional resource in the analysis of TOS customizations and interfaces such as Groovy code extensions, plug ins, triggers, data model extensions, forms, and APIs
- Work with regional and global teams to design standardized, consolidated solutions when implementing DPW Zodiac TOS and other terminal technology products
- Define, develop, and test customizations and system integrations to meet business requirements
- Provide technical expertise and assistance in the development, implementation and maintenance of Terminal Operating System (TOS), applying software engineering tools and methods
- Contribute to the design of integrations (APIs, web services, EDI) between internal solutions (TOS, community portal, etc.) and external systems (port authority, Customs, government agencies, banks, customers, Optical Character Recognition systems, etc.)
- Analyze existing use of TOS database model including custom variforms, flex fields, and data model extensions
- Work with group technology teams to specify new, standardized entities and determine how to incorporate them within the Zodiac TOS data model
- Work with technical teams responsible for product development to translate technical requirements into configurable functionality in product solutions
- Assess potential impact of solution alternatives on operational processes and systems
- Actively participate in the configuration, testing, and go-live for technology implementation projects
- Analyze and synthesize information from BU IT, business SMEs, and teams across the organization to make logical recommendations and decisions
- Analyze enhancement requests from business units to understand the business needs and define technical requirements
- Recommend solutions and approaches based on technical knowledge, past experiences, and best practices
- Follow defined process and control mechanisms to maintain central repository of customizations and integrations
- Create system specifications and maintain project technical documentation ensuring it is updated and available for all stakeholders
- Collaborate with other engineers to establish requirements and determine project feasibility
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
- Certification or knowledge of Agile principles and methods
- Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Expertise in programming languages Java and Groovy Scripting, SQL, Integrated Development Environment (IDE), and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
- Fluent in English and Spanish, Portuguese is a plus
- You are ready to travel up to 30% of the time across the Americas region to our operations
EXPERIENCE
- At least 4 years of experience delivering software projects within port operations, logistics, and supply chain industries working at or with multiple locations
- Experience configuring Marine Terminal Operating system(s), including implementation projects involving integration with external applications. Experience with Navis N4 TOS is necessary
- Skilled in developing and deploying Navis N4 customizations using Groovy Scripting and Java language
- Proficiency in designing and developing integrations using API and web services (RESTful and SOAP)
- Expertise with multiple formats for data exchange such as XML and JavaScript Object Notation (JSON)
- Knowledge of relational database: Oracle, MSSQL and PostgreSQL
- Experience configuring EDIFACT and X12 EDI messages used in the marine shipping industry
- Proven experience in projects across multiple sites and/or with multiple partners
- Strong understanding of, and solid experience with, all major aspects of business system implementation such as analysis, design, development, testing and deployment
- Experience working with both centralized and remote technology teams
- Experience working with distributed delivery teams, consisting of on and offshore resources
- Experience building and maintaining strong working relationships with business and technology stakeholders
