Role Overview: ID.me is seeking a
Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET V) to drive quality engineering initiatives with a focus on load and performance testing. This role is instrumental in ensuring the scalability and reliability of ID.me’s Identity, Wallet, and Marketplaces services. As an SDET V, you will design and implement performance testing frameworks, enhance functional automation, and collaborate across teams to ensure that systems meet the demands of millions of users.
You will play a key role in identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks, building robust testing infrastructure, and integrating performance insights into development pipelines. This position is ideal for a technical expert passionate about enabling development teams through advanced testing solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain robust functional automation frameworks to support reliable testing of core services, with a focus on seamless integration into CI/CD pipelines.
- Design and execute load, stress, and performance testing strategies to ensure ID.me’s platform can scale to meet user demands. Identify and address performance bottlenecks in critical systems.
- Build and enhance testing infrastructure specifically for load and performance testing, ensuring comprehensive coverage for high-traffic scenarios and integration-heavy components.
- Define and track key performance and reliability metrics (e.g., response times, error rates, and throughput) to measure the success of performance testing efforts.
- Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to define and implement testing strategies that incorporate performance metrics and real-world usage scenarios.
- Contribute to organizing and enhancing the codebase to ensure testability and maintainability, with a focus on performance-sensitive areas.
- Mentor and support junior engineers in performance testing best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and quality-driven development.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 10+ years in software quality engineering with a strong background in performance and load testing for large-scale applications.
- Proven experience with performance testing tools such as Locust, Gatling, K6, Artillery or similar frameworks.
- Proficiency in building and scaling functional test automation frameworks using tools like Playwright, or Cypress.
- Strong skills in Python, Ruby, JavaScript, Go, or similar languages, with experience writing maintainable test scripts and performance testing code.
- Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), containerization technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, Nomad), and CI/CD integration for automated testing.
- Experience with performance monitoring tools (e.g., Grafana, HoneyComb, New Relic, Datadog) to gather and analyze system performance metrics.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, product, and DevOps teams to implement performance testing strategies and solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with both statically typed and dynamically typed languages.
- Experience with Hashicorp Nomad/Vault/Consul/Terraform
- Familiarity with chaos engineering principles and tools like Gremlin or LitmusChaos to test system resilience under failure conditions.
- Experience designing and executing tests for integration-heavy systems, particularly those involving external services.
- Experience in security-sensitive or identity verification environments with stringent performance and reliability requirements.
The annual base salary listed does include a company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity and benefits which will be determined based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location and role.
