Boscov’s Network Engineer
Job Summary:
The Network Engineer’s role you will play is a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, visibility, and efficiency of our complex network infrastructure. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in network engineering, troubleshooting and proactively identify and resolve network issues while continually seeking ways to streamline operations and enhance network performance. Network engineers don't work in silos; collaboration is key to a smooth-running IT environment. Effectively communicate complex network issues and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. The ability to explain technical concepts in an understandable way is crucial for effective communication across departments.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategy & Planning
- Go beyond reactive troubleshooting by analyzing network performance metrics to anticipate potential bottlenecks and areas for improvement. Develop and implement performance dashboards and metrics to track network performance trends and identify potential issues proactively. Gain insights into network performance through data visualization and identify areas for improvement before they become problems.
- Employ advanced network troubleshooting methodologies to diagnose and resolve network problems efficiently, minimizing downtime and maximizing network uptime.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of network troubleshooting procedures to serve as a reference for future situations and knowledge transfer within the team.
- Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
- Design and deploy required LANs, WANs, MANs, wireless, and Internet networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, firewalls, VPN appliances, load balancers, UPSs, and other hardware.
- Advocate for the adoption of innovative technologies and methodologies to optimize network performance while keeping costs in check. Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
- Collaborate professionally with the IT team to design and implement scalable and secure network solutions that align with the evolving needs of the business.
- Configure and manage network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) to meet specific business requirements, ensuring a well-functioning and secure network infrastructure.
- Manage tickets using, Footprints, Confluence and Jira management systems.
- Utilize ITIL best practices to manage incidents, problems, and changes effectively. Contribute to the development and maintenance of ITIL-based processes and procedures.
- Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
- Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, printers, cameras and other network-attached appliances.
- Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory, software, patch management and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
- Participate in recovery operations to ensure all network systems are operational and working with business assets.
- Continuously monitor network performance metrics and identify areas for optimization and resource allocation. Don't just maintain the network; actively seek ways to improve its performance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, WLAN, WWAN, and VPN design and implementation.
- Extensive experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
- Working knowledge of Cisco and Meraki network technologies and products, including switches, access points, routers, and firewalls.
- Familiarity with Cisco and 3rd party management tools including but limited to Cisco Prime Infrastructure, and Cisco ISE, Meraki
- Familiarity with RadWare Alteon network load balancers or similar products.
- Practical knowledge of VOIP phone systems as well as protocols associated with this technology is an asset.
- Extensive hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Real world use of testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits.
- Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of ITIL and ITSM methodologies and ability to work within these programs.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Able to conduct research into networking issues and products and engineer solutions.
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong customer service orientation and professional etiquette when engaging with other teams.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Able to work both independently and as team when required in both deploying network projects and troubleshooting network problems.
- Must be able to lift/move 25 – 50 lbs. boxes or equipment when applicable.
Education and Experience:
The Network Engineer will have a minimum of 5 years of network engineering experience as well as certified with a mix of CCNA/CCNP/CCIE or similar certifications.
