Job Description
We are seeking an innovative and strategic Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead our technology vision and operations in the dynamic world of public media. The CTO will drive digital transformation, oversee IT infrastructure, and develop technology strategies that enhance content delivery across multiple platforms, including broadcast, streaming, and emerging media. This executive will collaborate with leadership to ensure our technology investments align with our mission, audience needs, and the evolving media landscape. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in media technologies, cybersecurity, and cloud-based solutions, along with a passion for public service and a commitment to innovation.
Salary for this position will be commensurate with education/experience.
The Chief Technology Officer is responsible forroutine operations of: Information Systems to include maintenance and operation of all desktops, printers, LAN infrastructure, servers, Internet access and wireless access. Maintenance including building technical infrastructure, technical equipment planning, installation and repair as well as system documentation, research and development. Network Operations that includes on-air radio and television broadcast content distribution, teleport operations, and distance learning technical operation of emerging digital platforms distributions. Transmissions with responsibility for installation, operation and maintenance of all over-the-air broadcast systems throughout the state. Information Technology to include maintenance and operation of all Web, Mobile and Remote Content gathering.
Examples Of Work
- Serves as member of Nebraska Public Media Executive Council and involved in Department and Agency strategic planning. Presents routine reports to the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications Commission.
- Responsible for major capital projects.
- Manages technology department operational budgets and responsible for fiscal approval through the state's Nebraska Information System.
- Member of the Technical Panel of the Nebraska Information Technology Commission, Collaborative Aggregation Partnership (managing organization of Network Nebraska) and Engineering Council of the National Educational Telecommunications Association. Liaison to the University of Nebraska Computing Directors.
- Assist with grant writing activities of Nebraska Public Media to secure capital funds from local and national sources and in the negotiation of technology related contracts on behalf of Nebraska Public Media.
- Responsible for FCC and FAA Licensing and documentation for broadcast, satellite & EAS systems.
- Oversee implementation of the Public Broadcasting System's disaster recovery site located at Nebraska Public Media.
- Oversee operations of the Public Broadcasting System regional uplink facility located at Nebraska Public Media.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: At least eight years of experience in broadcasting electronics - television, radio and internet-based distribution systems; including varied broadcast and internet based functional areas involving both operational and maintenance experience AND at least five years' experience in a supervisory capacity. Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field may substitute for four years' experience in broadcasting electronics.
