Job Title: System Administrator

Job Summary
The System Administrator will support a state government agency in managing security vulnerabilities, patching, application deployments, and system administration across Windows and Linux environments. This role requires expertise in Tanium for patch management, collaboration with cross-functional IT teams, and adherence to compliance standards (NIST, HIPAA, PCI). The candidate must provide after-hours support for urgent security incidents and participate in on-call rotations.
Key Responsibilities
Security & System Administration (80%)
- Deploy, monitor, and maintain Tanium for system patching, vulnerability management, and compliance.
- Administer Windows Server and Linux systems (physical/virtual), including troubleshooting OS and hardware issues.
- Perform software/hardware updates, security patching, and deployments in compliance with agency policies.
- Respond to urgent security incidents during and outside business hours.
- Collaborate with Network, Database, and Application teams to resolve technical issues.
- Log, track, and reassign service tickets using the agency’s incident management system.
IT & Customer Service (10%)
- Follow agency Change Management (RFC) processes and asset tracking protocols.
- Advise compliance teams on upgrade schedules for software, drivers, and firmware.
- Coordinate onsite visits for remote agency locations requiring hardware updates.
Organizational & Project Support (5%)
- Participate in agency projects, including task implementation and time tracking.
- Research compatibility modes for legacy software on modern systems.
- Share knowledge via internal training sessions and professional development.
Additional Duties (5%)
- Assist with decommissioning legacy servers and addressing technical debt.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Degree/diploma in IT, Information Systems, or related field.
Experience:
- 3–5 years as an IT professional, including 3+ years as a Systems Administrator (Windows/Linux).
- Hands-on experience with Tanium, PowerShell/Bash/Python scripting, and enterprise patching.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (NIST, CIS, HIPAA, PCI).
- Certifications: MCSE, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in VMware, SQL, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
- Knowledge of network security tools (Palo Alto NGFW, Meraki).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in AWS/Azure/GCP environments.
- Certifications: CISSP, CISM, ITIL, GIAC, or SANS.
- Tools: Crowdstrike, Tenable, Splunk, Puppet, or Google Apps.
- Scripting expertise in Python or PowerShell for automation.
