We are looking for a visionary and strategic leader to join our executive team as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will lead Alto Pharmacy’s technology strategy, ensuring alignment with the company's mission and business objectives. As a member of the executive leadership team, the CTO will collaborate closely with other senior leaders and executives to drive product innovation, enhance the customer experience, and scale technology infrastructure. This is a transformative role that demands a unique blend of advanced technical expertise in software engineering, data science, and applied AI, alongside strong program and product management skills. Minimum Qualifications
A Bit About You
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or closely-related technical field.
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience across product, engineering, and data science functions, with at least seven years in executive roles at a high-growth startup or a large, complex technology organization.
- Demonstrated ability to build and scale high-performing, cross-functional teams of 50+ across product, engineering, and data science, including experience managing remote or distributed teams.
- Proven track record of scaling customer-facing digital products or platforms from early stages to significant user base, with quantifiable impact on key business metrics (e.g., revenue, market share, customer acquisition cost, retention).
- Deep understanding of modern software development methodologies, data analytics, and AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, and their application in a business context).
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), microservices architecture, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue.js), and API-first design principles.
- Demonstrated ability to drive product and technology innovation that has resulted in significant improvements in business outcomes (e.g., increased customer satisfaction, market share, revenue, or operational efficiency).
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and 1 persuasively to both technical and non-technical 2 audiences, including board members and investors.
- Proven experience leading Agile teams and driving cross-functional collaboration to deliver on complex product and technology roadmaps. Experience with OKRs or other performance management frameworks is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or other advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Deep and demonstrable experience in healthcare technology, specifically within the pharmacy industry or related healthcare systems. A proven track record of navigating complex regulatory landscapes (e.g., HIPAA, FDA) is a significant advantage.
- Extensive experience with SaaS platforms, subscription-based models, and ideally, B2B2C business models within a regulated industry. Experience scaling a B2B2C platform is highly desirable.
- Proven success in leading and scaling technology organizations through periods of hypergrowth and significant transformation, including experience with mergers and acquisitions or other major strategic events. Demonstrated ability to anticipate and adapt to rapidly changing market dynamics is essential.
- Exceptional product sense, with a demonstrated ability to translate business needs into innovative technology solutions that delight users and drive business growth. Experience with product-led growth strategies is a plus.

Salary and Benefits
Salary Range: $280,000 - $350,000
Commission Eligible: No
Equity Eligible: Yes
Travel: Yes - Required up to 25% of the time
Location Requirement: Employment at Alto is limited to individuals residing in the following states: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington (WA), and Wisconsin.
