Overview
We are looking for a dedicated IT Systems and Server Administrator to join our team and play a key role in managing the day-to-day operations, development, and maintenance of systems and servers that provide essential IT services to the campus community. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all enterprise services are secure, reliable, and available at all times, while providing support to client teams and users as needed.
You will be involved in developing and monitoring scripts, installing software patches, upgrading applications, and maintaining server hardware and operating systems. Additionally, you will collaborate with peers responsible for administrative and enterprise systems, assisting with data center operations and inventory management.
Your contributions will directly benefit the entire SIUE community by ensuring the availability and functionality of vital services such as websites, email, file storage, and emergency notifications.
What You'll Do:
- Install, configure, and repair server hardware and software
- Ensure routine backups are performed and implement secure firewall settings
- Monitor and review system logs regularly to identify and resolve issues
- Maintain and troubleshoot user authentication scripts and system interfaces
- Install, patch, and configure operating systems to meet application requirements

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
1. Any combination that totals 2 years from the following:
- 60 semester hours or an Associate Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems (= 1 year) and one year of experience
- 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, CMIS or related field (= 2 years).
2. At least 2 years or responsible experience maintaining systems and/or servers in a complex IT environment.
3. At least 4 years of experience working with computers, networks, or software packages.
4. In-depth knowledge of programming and scripting languages (Java, JavaScript, HTML, Python, Perl, CGI, PHP, shell).
5. Detailed knowledge of computer operating systems (Unix, Linux, Windows, and/or MacOS), networked client-server interaction, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and storage technologies.
6. Detailed working knowledge of server hardware (Oracle, Dell, HPE, and more).
7. Experience with the implementation, support, and integration of open-source software/systems.
8. Experience managing enterprise backup/archive systems, load balancing, and filesystems.
9. Ability to handle and resolve ticket-based requests and incidents without direction, while continuing progress on independent projects.

Illinois Residency Requirement:Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position. Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois Driver’s License or state of Illinois ID Card. Failure to produce the required documentation within 180 calendar days will result in immediate termination of employment.

Work Authorization Information: This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status. F-1 and J-1 visa holders must be enrolled full-time and can only apply for temporary part-time roles working 20 hours or less per week during spring and fall semesters, such as student worker positions, assistantships, and civil service extra help roles.
