The role:
Based in our London office, you’ll be performing system administration tasks as part of our Infrastructure team.
Day to day, you’ll be:
- Triaging and responding to alerts from systems and services
- Performing administration of Linux servers
- Assisting our engineering and IT teams in debugging networking issues
- Administering networking hardware, including firewalls and switches
- Putting in place measures to reduce overall system alert volume
- Keeping systems up to date with the latest security patches
- Ensuring systems have appropriate and functional backups
- Engaging and liaising with hardware and software vendors
- Proactively identifying and acting on opportunities for improvement and automation
- Working in-line with Netcraft’s hybrid work from home policy, present in the office two days a week

What you’ll need to be successful:
- Solid experience of administering Linux systems
- Knowledge of networking and Internet technologies
- Experience with scripting languages, for example Bash or Perl
- Experience configuring and maintaining networking infrastructure (switches, firewalls, VLAN management, etc.)
- Strong diagnostic and debugging skills
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles
- Absolute integrity and discretion, given your potential level of access to sensitive business data
- Proactive approach to documentation and knowledge sharing
- Ability to prioritise multiple tasks of varying urgency
- Excellent communication skills with a high standard of written English
Bonus points if you have experience with:
- Virtualisation technologies, especially VMware (vSphere, ESXi) and Proxmox
- RHEL-based Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Rocky Linux, etc.)
- Configuration management systems, especially Puppet
- Mail server administration, especially Postfix
- Monitoring tools, especially Nagios
- Managing physical hardware (racking servers, Ethernet patching, etc.)
- Managing cloud infrastructure, especially AWS
- Atlassian products, especially Jira
A degree or certification in a relevant area (e.g. CCNA) may be useful but isn’t essential.
