General Summary
The Risk Analyst facilitates the identification of risks throughout the Credit Union and assists with mitigation strategies to help decrease loss due to fraud by identifying and reporting fraud trends and to improve Credit Union operations and internal controls. This person also provides support for the BSA compliance program.
Key Essential Responsibilities
- Processes fraud resolution transactions accurately and in accordance with regulatory requirements and performs case management in relation to checks, debit cards, identity theft and other fraudulent activity.
- Interacts with members to assess and resolve cases of suspected fraud and provide recommendations and education related to fraud prevention.
- Investigates alerts through the AML/fraud monitoring system and makes determination about disposition and further necessary action.
- Reviews fraud risk reports, security reports and utilizes various systems and databases to initiate appropriate action.
- Assists the BSA Officer and Assistant BSA Officer with BSA, AML, OFAC and CIP compliance.
- Acts as a resource for educating and advising branches and departments on fraud prevention and fraud related issues.
- Assists management with audit requests, regulatory examinations, as well as ongoing maintenance of department procedures, training materials, and job aids.
- Promotes and maintains a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a manner consistent with professional standards to work effectively with members, co-workers, management and vendors.
- Keeps abreast of industry developments including, but not limited to changes in regulations and technology.
- Ensures adherence to company policies and procedures and Banking/Credit Union Regulations.
- Performs additional duties as required.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred; will consider experience in lieu of degree.
- A minimum 2 years of experience in fraud with a strong understanding of standard fraudulent investigation practices, risk mitigation and anti-money laundering controls.
- Strong knowledge of compliance matters within the financial services industry with knowledge of Regulation E, Regulation CC, Visa rules and requirements, the Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act and related regulations and internal policies and procedures.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with persons of diverse social and economic backgrounds. Must be organized, analytical, have a keen attention to detail and also be able to effectively prioritize and manage time.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel, as well as software related to financial crime detection and tracking.
