The Role
The Head of Information Technology will be responsible for designing and implementing an enterprise IT strategy, supporting a distributed workforce, and ensuring the highest standards of security and compliance. You will work closely with senior leadership and colleagues across the company. This includes collaborating with our engineering team to align on best practices and security for our research systems while managing business systems.
This position is based in our San Francisco office with frequent visits to our incubated company offices.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing an IT strategy to ensure productivity, availability, and compliance
- Managing day-to-day operations of the network, telecommunications, and business applications
- Developing a broad security strategy and maintaining cybersecurity tools across the enterprise
- Overseeing a system-wide budget that provides appropriate funding for all relevant plan components
- Administering IT policies, procedures, and infrastructure based on industry-standard best practices and legal requirements
- Managing IT vendors, including MSPs and task-specific consultants
Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience running IT in finance, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, technology, or a similar industry
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred
- Experience building IT systems and policies in regulated environments (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA)
- Expertise in investigating, negotiating, and selecting outside services and software
- Broad technology awareness with strong requirements-gathering and writing skills
- Significant experience with cloud-native platforms, including Google Workspace
- Experience designing, deploying, and managing networks for businesses with multiple sites, with a state-of-the-art security and high availability
- Experience selecting, deploying, managing, and integrating identity management and access control systems for both line of business applications and in collaboration with internal engineering teams
- Experience with security and IT compliance policy development, including infrastructure security and data handling, to address GDPR and similar requirements
- Strong security background, including knowledge of best practices and awareness of emerging threat profiles
- Proven track record of delivering in fast-paced, innovative environments while staying flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong desire to work collaboratively within a team
Salary Range: $175,000 - $225,000
