Description
SilkMed is revolutionizing advanced wound care with cutting-edge silk-fibroin technology, starting with a first-in-class spray-on dressing for burns. We are seeking a technical leader to join as our Chief Technology Officer (CTO) - whether in a full-time or fractional capacity - to drive our product development, regulatory strategy, and commercialization efforts.
Location: In-person role based in Boston, MA

As CTO, you will be at the forefront of translating biomedical innovation into real-world impact, ensuring our silk-fibroin biomaterials move seamlessly from R&D to market.
This is a formal leadership position, and we are looking for a technical co-founder mindset -someone who will take ownership of SilkMed’s technology strategy and be a key partner in driving the company forward.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technology strategy – Oversee R&D, product development, and clinical validation.
- Drive commercialization – Develop scalable, FDA-compliant products for market entry.
- Own regulatory strategy – Navigate 510(k) and FDA pathways to accelerate approval timelines.
- Strengthen IP & competitive positioning – Ensure SilkMed’s innovations are protected and differentiated.
- Build & mentor a high-performing technical team – Recruit and develop top-tier talent.
- Partner with the CEO & leadership team – Play a key role in strategic decision-making beyond technical execution.
Ideal Candidate
Technical leader with a deep background in biomaterials, biomedical engineering, and medical device development - with the experience and drive to bring breakthrough technologies from concept to commercialization.
- Master’s or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Material Science, or related field
- Proven track record in medical device product development
- Deep understanding of FDA Class II regulatory processes (510(k) experience highly preferred)
- Experience guiding a product from concept to market entry
- Strong grasp of IP strategy, technology licensing, and competitive positioning
- Leadership experience, whether building teams or managing technical roadmaps
- Startup experience is a major plus – ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Boston-based or willing to relocate (in-person required)
